January 19, 2026 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day, Songs Of The Week

“Evie” by Holy Fuck

Holy fuck, Holy Fuck is back! After a few years hiatus, the electronic band is back together with not only a brand new song, but a new album and tour announced!

The new single “Evie” shows they haven’t missed a beat with it’s infectious groove, and you can check out the video below which shows the group playing the song live in studio.

You can pick up Event Beat when it drops on March 27, while their tour kicks off in April, and includes a show here in Vancouver on May 8th at The Pearl!

“Overtime” by Jody Glenham

Jody Glenham has been a stalwart of the Vancouver music scene for years, and on April 24th, she’s reminding everyone she’s Still Here with a brand new EP.

The announcement came with her latest single, “Overtime”, a slow-burn which builds to a big finish as Jody achingly asks, “Are you in love?”

Check out the video directed by Wayne Moreheart below, and you can catch Jody with Rempel and Dawson Gool at The Heatley on February 14th!

“Keep Out Of The Storm” by The Sheepdogs

We’re just over a month and a bit away from the latest offering from The Sheepdogs!
Their new album Keep Out Of The Storm drops on February 27th, and last week they released the title track.

The song has slow verses the flow into rockin’, guitar-driven choruses - which reminded me of something, and I eventually landed on “Heart and Soul” by Huey Lewis and The News, hah!
Of the single, lead singer Ewin Curie says: “We’re all trying to weather the storms in our lives…finding shelter, love, hope. This song is about that search, and the belief that rock ’n’ roll can still be a sanctuary.”

The band has released headlining dates across Canada, but no Vancouver stop has been set yet, so we’ll be keeping an eye out.

“Cut My Bangs” by Miesha and The Spanks

Miesha and The Spanks are back with their first single since their 2023 album Unconditional Love In Hi-Fi (and winning the 2024 WCMA for Breakout Artist of the Year!)

“Cut My Bangs” is a as high energy and rockin’ as you’d expect from the duo, with singer Miesha Louie saying the song is loosely based on meeting her husband, but also symbolizes a fresh start. She elaborates, “When you cut your bangs, you know you’re over everything, ready to move on. I wrote it to commemorate a time in my life where I cut out what I didn't want anymore, and let myself stumble into something better than I ever could have expected to find. Make the hard decision to let go, and give space for something good to come in.”

2026 marks the ten year anniversary of when Miesha Louie and drummer Sean Hamilton started working together, so hopefully we’ll be hearing more in the year to come!

Songs of the Week: October 25 - 31, 2021

November 01, 2021 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

“Lost Cool” by Holy Fuck (feat. Lucia Tacchetti)

Toronto’s Holy Fuck is getting the jump on a busy 2022, with a brand new single, “Lost Cool”.

Following their previous single “Airport Dreams” — which features Sarah Bonito from Kero Kero Bonito — “Lost Cool” continues the trend of guest vocals with Madrid-based Electro-Pop artist Lucia Tacchetti lending her pipes to the dark yet danceable tune.

The pair of songs proceed a comprehensive tour, starting February 4th right here in Vancouver, and crisscrossing the globe for the next four months.

“Life Goes By And I Can’t Keep Up” by Dear Rouge

Dear Rouge has slowly been releasing new music from their highly anticipated next album (due out next year), and after a banger of a song in “Fake Fame”, we get a delicate ballad in “Life Goes By And I Can’t Keep Up”.

Drew joins Danielle on sharing the lead vocals on this one, and in the video the pair roam the Vancouver streets (Burrard Hotel and Granville Street being the main recognizable landmarks).

Around the 3:15 mark of the song, I got SERIOUS “Anthems For A Seventeen-Year-Old Girl” by Broken Social Scene vibes, and that makes sense as the song was born during a jam session at Brendan Canning of BSS’s home.
It’s a beautiful track, with incredibly relatable sentiments. Give it a listen or five.

“The Lullaby (My Oldest Love)” by Rose Cousins (feat. Tim Baker)

What’s better than a new song from Rose Cousins? How about a new song from Rose Cousins featuring a duet with Tim Baker?

“The Lullaby (My Oldest Love)” sees the pair of celebrated East Coasters come together for a song that was co-written after a conversation that the two had over coffee “revealed a theme that resonated deeply in both of us,” says Cousins. “Being a human is vulnerable and it's hard to remember the harsh voices in our heads are our own creations. We needed a lullaby for ourselves and that's what we made. I'm glad we recorded this duet to honour how it felt to share the experience. Sometimes just knowing you're not the only one is the greatest comfort."

Have a listen below, but make sure you’re sitting down first, because you’re going to need a chair to melt right into.

Song of the Day: September 21, 2019 - "Luxe" by Holy Fuck feat. Alexis Taylor

September 21, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

It’s been a minute since we last heard new music from Holy Fuck, but now they’re back with a brand new single, “Luxe”.

The song was born live on-stage, starting as “a spontaneous jam session as the encore at a Luxembourg show”. From there, they enlisted the help of Four Tet to work on the song, and Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip for the vocals.

It’s a sprawling, dancey song that is perfect to crank on a day like today.

Song of the Day: February 03, 2018 - "House Of Glass" by Holy Fuck

February 03, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I think all that you need to know with this one is that Ft. Langley (that duo behind some awesome/award winning Aidan Knight videos) created an anti-Trump short film, and that Holy Fuck's song "House of Glass" is the soundtrack.

Song of the Day: July 14, 2017 - "Bird Brains" by Holy Fuck

July 14, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Hot off their Juno-nominated album Congrats, Holy Fuck is back with a brand new EP called Bird Brains. The EP was recorded live at various studios over the past few years, and "represents the ongoing creative process of a band whose members live in different cities (in both Canada and the US) yet insist their music should be a collaborative process." As one of the most unique live bands in Canada, hearing it's recorded live makes me very eager for July 21st.

You can check out the title track below, but if you're an ornithophobic (like some people around here) you may just want to open it in a background tab.

Song of the Day: December 18, 2016 - "Neon Dad" by Holy Fuck

December 18, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Holy Fuck's new album Congrats came out earlier this year, and just the other day they released a brand new video for the track "Neon Dad"

Director Scott Cudmore says "The song title ‘Neon Dad’ made me think of some kind of psychedelic god, like a patriarchal, biblical God…and then that made me think about the David & Goliath story and what if that happened now, in our modern world? How would the sudden celebrity affect that young man? That was the jumping off point…it’s a bit of the classic fish-out-of-water story mixed with a parody of “lifestyle” culture. The real Goliaths are of our own making."

Check it out below!

Song of the Day: April 04, 2016 - "Xed Eyes" by Holy Fuck

April 04, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

So much new music coming out lately, and when this one landed in my inbox I may have let out an excited squeal.

Holy Fuck has released a new song titled "Xed Eyes" from their upcoming LP Congrats, following up their first single Tom Tom.

I think I listened to the new song about 5 or 6 times in a row, and it got me up and out of the butt groove I've established in my desk chair.

Tour plans for late spring/early summer include the Field Trip festival in Toronto, and here in Vancouver in Stanley Park as part of the Levitation Festival on June 17th.
