Song of the Day: April 19, 2017 - "The Ecstatics" by Explosions In The Sky

April 19, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

I wish I could put this new animated video for "The Ecstatics" on an IMAX or even Planetarium sized screen, and listen to Explosions In The Sky in the best possible surround sound.

But I am also afraid because I think my brain might literally melt if I did that.

Check out the video below to see what I mean.

Song of the Day: April 18, 2017 - "Swim" by Her

April 18, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

My favourite french duo Her is back with another single titled "Swim" from their new EP Her Tape #2.
A few things you need to know:
The girl in the video looks very much like Cate Blanchett and a badass.
There is an epic saxophone solo.
The boys are just as groovy as ever.
I'm into it...take a listen:

Song of the Day: April 17, 2017 - "The Fall" by Elliott BROOD

April 17, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Had I heard this song out of context, I don't think I would have realised it was the new one from Elliott BROOD.

"The Fall" is a dark and haunting song, which is fitting since it was written for the CBC show, Bellevue, and looks to be the first single from their upcoming album Ghost Gardens.

Song of the Day: April 16, 2017 - "Young Leo" by Mise en Scene

April 16, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Last week it was announced that Winnipeg band Mise en Scene signed with Light Organ Records and performed at a secret show at the Fox Cabaret (as well as opening for The Zolas at the Railway re-launch).

Their first single, "Young Leo", from their upcoming album Still Life On Fire (June 30), is out now. Lead singer Stefanie Blondal Johnson's voice is a powerful one and their live show was definitely mezmerizing. Give it a listen below...

Song of the Day: April 13, 2017 - "The Machinist" by Peregrine Falls

April 13, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Vancouver duo Peregrine Falls has announced a new self-titled album (out May 12) and released a new single called "The Machinist".

The album is co-produced with Jesse Zubot, who is also featured (playing a wooden flute) on the new single.

The chaotic magic the band creates with it's improvisation is hard to describe, you'll just have to sit down and take a listen!

Song of the Day: April 12, 2017 - "Brigden Fair" by Wilderness of Manitoba

April 12, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Wilderness of Manitoba has gone through quite an evolution over their many years. Founding member (and now sole songwriter) Will Whitwham has created The Tip Shop EP ahead of a new record to come later this year.

Of the single "Brigden Fair", Whitwham says: "We stopped into the Brigden Fair on tour a few years ago and had a really nice ride on this giant maiden sea woman. Over time, I fictionalized and personified this fall afternoon and amusement ride into song.”
Have a listen below!
