Song of the Day: April 11, 2017 - "Grifting" by Timber Timbre

April 11, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Fun fact, I love disco, and I'm not ashamed to say so. This new single by Timber Timbre is like a dark disco song, with a funky bass line throughout, but with their signature dreamy vocals.

Check out "Grifting", from the new album Sincerely, Future Tomorrow out now, below and be sure to get your tickets to the show here in Vancouver at the Vogue on May 5th with The Wooden Sky!

Song of the Day: April 09, 2017 - "Entertainer" by Adaline

April 09, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

I have been waiting for new music from Adaline for what seems like forever, and now we're finally getting a splash of her new album Aquatic (out June 2nd) with the first single "Entertainer". It's equal parts poppy & sultry as Adaline's voice soars over a punchy chorus.

Song of the Day: April 08, 2017 - "Knocking At The Door" by Arkells

April 08, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

To say Arkells have been having a good year would be a bit of an understatement. And now, fresh off an appearance at the JUNO Awards, they've dropped a brand new sing which is at least six fire emojis.

But don't take my word for it, listen to "Knocking At The Door" below!

Song of the Day: April 07, 2017 - "Brutal" by Rococode

April 07, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Just over a year after the release of their last album, Rococode is already pressing on with new music. "Brutal" is the first single from the upcoming EP Young Ones out in June, and the lyric video was directed by local musician & friend of the band Robert Tornroos.

The song is simultaneously badass and creepy, and singer Laura Smith says it's "lyrically honest regarding what it feels like to have a tornado inside your brain, making you insane, and then taking your shit out on everyone around you."

Song of the Day: April 06, 2017 - "Back To The Bright" by Needles//Pins

April 06, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

It's been a big week for Vancouver's own Needles//Pins! They officially signed with Mint Records, released a new single, "Back To The Bright" (as you can hear below), and announced a new record will be coming on June 30th called Good Night, Tomorrow.

On top of this, they are playing a few shows in Vancouver, on the 22nd with BA Johnston at Pat's Pub, then over to the Commodore on May 13th for The Smuggler's reunion show, (they're playing with them in Toronto in June as well), and then on June 30th their record release is at SBC!

Take a listen to the new tune below!

Song of the Day: April 05, 2017 - "Halfway Home" by Broken Social Scene

April 05, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

If I'm being honest, it doesn't feel like it's been 7 years since we've had new music from Broken Social Scene but it's true.

I think I attribute it to the fact that I've seen (various formations of) the band perform throughout those years, as well as all of the solo work from a lot of the members.

That said "Halfway Home" was indeed the first new track since Forgiveness Rock Record, and you can hear it below.

The band will be performing in Europe this Spring, and so far the only two Canadian festivals they're on the docket for are Field Trip (naturally) in Toronto and Osheaga in Montreal. No word on a new record yet either, but we'll keep you posted.

Song of the Day: March 31, 2017 - "Confidence" by Said The Whale

March 31, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Eagle eye'd (ear'd?) readers may remember a Song of the Day from about a year and a half ago, "Confidence" by the mysterious duo P'ARIS. At the time, I had a feeling that the pair behind the project was Said the Whale's Tyler Bancroft and Andy Huculiak from We Are The City, which has now been (publicly) confirmed.

At a recent listening party in Vancouver, Tyler said he liked the song too much to leave it for an obscure side project, so he reworked it for the new Said the Whale album, brought in Andy to drum on the track, and BAM! it's the latest off their album As Long As Your Eyes Are Wide... which just so happens to be out today!

Another fun facts from that listening party: when shooting the video, one of the walls almost fell on Tyler. He was fine, and sadly, the shot didn't make it into the video.
