Song of the Day: December 16, 2016 - "California" by Steph Cameron

December 16, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Appropriately timed with the recent snowy weather in Vancouver, Steph Cameron has released a sunny winter song called "California".

The previous Polaris long-list-er is set to release new music in 2017, but in the meantime, listen to this new tune and think warm thoughts.

Song of the Day: December 15, 2016 - "People" by Little Scream

December 15, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Little Scream has released a b-side from her recent (totally awesome) album Cult Following. "People" is a political anthem that, despite being written a few years ago, is perfectly timed and appropriate for all the turmoil that is going on.

Of the song she says:
“When simplistic rhetoric and misleading sloganeering helped award a sociopathic demagogue the highest office in my home country, I heard a collective sigh of exasperation, and it resembled something like 'Come on, People!!!' What more could we say?”

Check out the single below and buy it by clicking HERE.

Song of the Day: December 14, 2016 - "What Light (Never Goes Dim)" by Aidan Knight

December 14, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Just like the Hannah Georgas video recently released, one of my favourite people, Aidan Knight, appears in a video with several versions of themselves. Aidan's for everyone!

The new video for "What Light (Never Goes Dim)" was shot on an active submarine, directly by Ft. Langley (who also did the awesome video for Aidan's song "All Clear"). Check it out:

Song of the Day: December 13, 2016 - "Freedom" by Rose Cousins

December 13, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Rose Cousins has released a new single, "Freedom", and announced a new album Natural Conclusion, due out February 3rd 2017!

"Freedom" is a beautiful song that instantly reminded me of early 90's Tragically Hip ("Grace, Too"), and represents the idea of choice, and giving up something in order to get something.

The record has an all star lineup from producer Joe Henry, to the band (Gord Tough, and Kinley Downing to name a few), and a choir that includes the likes of Jill Barber, and Miranda Mullholland. Have a listen to "Freedom" below.

Song of the Day: December 11, 2016 - "Homeless" by Julie & The Wrong Guys

December 11, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

I feel like I shouldn't even need to tell you anything more about Julie & The Wrong Guys other than the members; Juno-winning Julie Doiron, Cancer Bats members Mike Peters and Jaye Schwarzer, and Eamon McGrath.

Their new songs gives me some "House of the Rising Sun" vibes, and considering it's called "Homeless" is probably no coincidence. It's off their new 7" and you're going to want to crank this one loud.
