Song(s) of the Day: July 21, 2016 - ¢ by sivarT

July 21, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I love finding the side-projects of members of some of my favourite bands, and when sivarT popped up on my Facebook, I was just as pleased.

sivarT, is Travis Stokl, the drummer for Ontario band The Elwins, and while this is his solo work, the band is all over the album. Matthew co-wrote two songs and designed the cover, Frankie co-wrote "Poet Inside", and Feurd played bass on "Improve My Improv".

The songs on ¢ remind me of very early Said The Whale, combined with the vocals and mellow instrumentation of Coconut Records, (aka I love it), but take a listen for yourself below!

Song(s) of the Day: July 20, 2016 - Adult Contempt by Your Boy Tony Braxton

July 20, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Last Friday Shad released a surprise album called Adult Contempt under the name Your Boy Tony Braxton. It's a soft rock album, inspired by late 80s-early 90s pop/rock, and if that's not enough to get you to listen, I don't even know why you're here.

(Oh, and also, make sure you check out his website, which is also inspired by late 80s-early 90s)

Song of the Day: July 19, 2016 - "Hand In My Pocket" Alanis Morissette cover by Seaway

July 19, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

All I saw was "covers Alanis Morissette's "Hand In My Pocket" and I knew I needed to listen.

Oakville, Ontario outfit Seaway took on the song with their pop-punk twist and it's definitely catchy.

The band will be in Vancouver tonight (July 19th) at the Cobalt with Coldfront and Rarity - more info here. Give the cover a listen below, and hear their latest album Colour Blind by clicking HERE.

Song of the Day: July 16, 2016 - "Dump The Guy ASAP" by Lisa LeBlanc

July 16, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

I'm willing to bet that when you read this, you probably thought of at least one person you considered forwarding this song to. Even before you had a listen.

"Sometimes your friends date losers. I myself have dated losers. This is a solidarity tune," explains Lisa LeBlanc about her tropical-sounding "Dump the Guy ASAP". The song is the first single off her upcoming album which is due out September 30th via Bonsound.

And if you're heading to the Vancouver Folk Music Festival today or tomorrow (or... yesterday, somehow) you can catch her in a few workshops, or on one of the evening stages Sunday. Check out the full schedule here.
