Songs of the Week: October 27 - November 02, 2025

November 03, 2025 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day, Songs Of The Week

“What Good?” by Arkells

After a couple weeks of teases, Arkells have given us the first hint of their upcoming album with “What Good?”

The new single is a classic, boisterous Arkells banger, which asks the question What good can come from the noise of modern day life. Though as frontman Max Kerman elaborates: “The song doesn’t pretend to have neat answers—but it points toward where meaning might still be found. The sun, the moon, the neon glow of your neighborhood bar. Things we can share, things that feel real.”

The album is due out next year, as the band promises more info (and tour dates) are to come, so for now check out the video below!

“Airport” & “The Only Truth” by The Weather Station

Earlier this year, The Weather Station released the acclaimed album Humanhood, and is now back with a pair of new songs from that recording session with the rollicking “Airport” and the rich, gorgeous “Only The Truth”.

Tamara Linderman explains why the songs were omitted from the album, saying “There were so many strong songs I left off Humanhood because the album had such a narrative arc to adhere to. ‘Airport’ was one of them that I’m glad to release now. I’ve always hated airports; I find them so dehumanizing. This song tells a story of a person trying to mirror what is around them; that sort of shutting down, not caring, acting like you don’t care even when you really do. At the heart of it though is, of course, an intense longing, and a hope for something alive that feels like it can't be.”
And she describes “Only The Truth” as “one of my favourite songs from Humanhood and just didn’t make the tracklist at the very last moment, but it feels so relevant and connected with the record. It intersects with ‘Neon Signs,’ it expands on the same idea; that the truth is this sort of lumpen, complicated, organic thing. Falsehoods and lies glimmer, reach towards you, need you; but the truth ‘doesn’t care if you care / all it ever is is there.’”

Check out both new singles below, and make sure to check out Humanhood if you haven’t yet!

“Human” by Hawksley Workman

Canada’s troubadour Hawksley Workman has announced his Canadian tour to support his latest EP, Fly Like An Ego and I couldn’t be more excited.

Hawksley’s live show has always been something fantastic to watch and one of my favourites to see, and his statements on what this tour is going to be has got me giddy…
“For the last UK solo run, I pushed myself to perform newer and more ‘forgotten’ songs. You can rehearse endlessly, but a song only finds its confidence in front of an audience. Mr. Lonely and I are now diving into rehearsals, adding a new big rock-club section and dusting off older duo pieces. We may even transform ourselves, from time to time, into a Dance-Rock Power Duo, and yes, the keytar will finally make an appearance.
On these two tours you can expect to hear some long-forgotten orphans, in particular the song ‘Striptease’, which is arguably my biggest hit in Canada, and a song I rarely play live. We are also planning on some extreme deep cuts like, ‘Above Ground Pool’, which has never been played live.  Expect some introspective moments and some exciting rockers too!”

I’m excited by all the tour chat, so check out the video for “Human” from the new EP, which features Canadian actor/comedian Chris Locke!

“Mountainside (acoustic)” by David Vertesi

I cannot believe it’s been fifteen years since David Vertesi released his debut solo album Cardiography. And to celebrate, he’s releasing a special acoustic reimagining of the whole thing.

Along with the announcement of the new album (and vinyl), Vertesi has released “Mountainside (acoustic)”, a stunning version of the already beautiful song.

Have a listen below, and you can check out a special live show on December 7th here in Vancouver at The Gallery @ Artech!

“Giallo” by Rich Aucoin

The fourth and final season of SYNTHETIC, Rich Aucoin’s incredibly ambitious project, has finally arrived (mine came in the mail last week!).

To celebrate Rich released the video for the track “Giallo”, which was filmed by Malcolm Macmaster & Seth Daniel Willard and starring Florence Wallace & Malcolm Macmaster.

Season 4 comes with the most synthesizers used, compared with the following three seasons, and clocks in at 103 unique syths, and brings the total to 162, which blows my mind.

This might be my favourite of the four (I think I say that with every new release), and I’m excited to hear it on my record player finally!

  • Christine

“Breakaway” by Blue Jay Valley

How about being the youngest Canadian band to EVER sign to a record label!? Well that’s exactly what Blue Jay Valley did when they signed with the new label Fink City Records headed up by Vancouver punk rock legend Billy Bones (of Clampdown Record Press, the Vicious Cycles).

With an average age of 11, the band is comprised of Noa (lead vocals, age 11), Josh (guitar, age 12), Obi (drums, age 11), and brothers Mikey (lead guitar, age 12) and Alex (bass, age 10).

They are following up their debut EP, We Like To Rock, with their new one Breakaway on November 15th with a show at Green Auto.
Check out the title track below!

“Slanted” by Shad

Speaking of album releases, Shad’s latest Start Anew is finally out!
Been excited to get the whole package since he released the first single “Bars and BBQs” and I cannot wait to hear some of the new stuff live when he rolls into town for a show on January 17th at the Hollywood Theatre.

With the album, Shad also released the single “Slanted” with a video directed by Justin Broadbent (who also did the album artwork). Of the track Shad says: “"Slanted" is a song about the proverbial slippery slope. Or the proverbial frog in boiling water. Whatever metaphor you want to use to describe how things can slide in the wrong direction while we fail to notice. It's hard work to perceive the slope before it's too late and restore balance. But it's often the main task at hand.”

Now excuse me, I’m off to listen to this one front to back…

Songs of the Week: September 08 - 14, 2025

September 15, 2025 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day, Songs Of The Week

“K.I.S.S.” ft Jon Kabongo & “Islands” by Shad

I hate sitting on embargoed songs (it feels like keeping a secret for a person) when really I just want to share here!
And that’s how I felt about waiting to post these two new song from Shad that came out early last week. They followed up his single “Bars & BBQs” and they will all appear on his new album Start Anew on October 31st.

“K.I.S.S.” aka the acronym for Keep It Simple Stupid features Jon Kabongo (which I thought was a spelling error, but it’s just a coincidence!) and Shad says it’s “inspired by the idea that we should take our work seriously but not take ourselves too seriously”.

In his newsletter Shad says that “Islands” is inspired by the book/concept “Islands Of Sanity” that his friend once mentioned to him: “The term "Islands Of Sanity" refers to communities that not only help people survive challenging times but also provide models for a better future. They aren't necessarily big or well-known groups but they are uncommonly cohesive, caring, and creative. The idea felt like exactly the kind of thing I wanted to explore on this album.”

The album is full of collaborations, both on production and performances, and I can’t wait to get more from it. There’s also been a show/tour announcement, so circle your calendars for January 17th as Shad will be coming to the Hollywood Theatre!

“Tears Of A Nation” by The Dears

A couple months ago, we heard the first new music from The Dears in a while, and now they’ve announced a brand new album! The Montreal band’s ninth studio album is called Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful!

The news is heralded by the brand new single called “Tears Of A Nation”, a soaring, powerful song with Murray Lightburn’s vocals bursting through.

Of the album, Murray says: “I remember when it clicked in my brain what I was writing about. It was soon after we played a series of shows celebrating the 20th anniversary of No Cities Left. I was on stage surrounded by wonderful musicians, playing songs I wrote in my 20s. My kids and my mom were sitting up on the balcony of the theatre. Natalia was just to my right. I told the audience that sometimes it gets tough but that life is beautiful. I asked the audience to say it with me, three times: A mantra; a wish; an affirmation.
Life is tough. We experience challenges all the time. In our darkest hours we might think it’s never going to be better. But if we can just make it through, we find out what we thought was impossible; that we could smile again, maybe even laugh. We feel our loved ones. We find out how strong we can be. The songs in this record are for everyone and anyone. They are meant to be supportive.”

Pick up the new album when it’s out on November 7th via Next Door Records, and check out the video — directed by Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew — below!

“Moral Panic” by Vivek Shraya

The new release from Vivek Shraya gave me major “Starálfur” by Sigur Rós vibes!
“Moral Panic” starts off with looping vocals, but then quiet instrumentals are layered and then the vocals come in, building and building until the end.

With poignant timing, Shraya speaks of the song: “Fear has long been a political tool to divide, distract and control and it’s more important than ever to be vigilant about what we are consuming and believing. At the same time, there is legitimately a lot to be afraid of right now and also looking ahead.”

The new album New Models will be out on October 8th and there are only a few tour dates announced - for now!

  • Christine

“Hotter Than The Sun” by Begonia

We’re just over a month away from the new album from Begonia, and getting a new tease with the song “Hotter Than The Sun”.

The latest track off Fantasy Life is a quirky, upbeat tune, which sees Begonia pondering, “Do butterflies appreciate their own beauty? Does a moth know that the closer they get to the light could also mean potentially dying at the light's hand? Don’t ask me. I just know that sometimes I dream of just being an insect and flicking my wings around at will. I can honestly say with this record that I’m accepting myself now fully for the first time. I feel like I've said that before but this time I actually mean it. I’m not saying it’s easy but it’s far less exhausting then trying to fit in anyone else’s version of who I should be. I’ve always struggled with a very loud inner hater and I feel like making this song is attempting some kind of scruffy diy exorcism. I’ll let you know how I feel the more I sing it.”

Check out the video, and make sure you have October 24th in your calendar, when Fantasy Life drops, on Birthday Cake Records.

“On Ice” by Clothesline From Hell

You better believe I’m going to check out a band named after a pro wrestling move.

Clothesline From Hell is the musical project of Toronto’s Adam LaFramboise, and last week he released his latest single, “On Ice”.

With an intense, driving beat (perhaps not what you would expect from a project named after a cowboy-turned-businessman) Adam says, “The song is as loud and dumb as I’ll ever allow myself to get. It should be frustrating, but it ends up being cathartic. I just wanted to make a really catchy pop song that also felt dangerous. This is the kind of pain you feel in your funny bone; it's weird and potent and I can’t help but laugh.”

No word on a full album from Clothesline From Hell, but have a listen to “On Ice” below!

Songs of the Week: July 07 - 13, 2025

July 14, 2025 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day, Songs Of The Week

“Bars and BBQs” by Shad

Well, I found my “Song Of The Summer”!

Shad released the track “Bars and BBQs” off his newly announced album Start Anew, and while it’s mellow and breezy, it’s chock full of Shad’s classic wordplay. (My favourite being right off the top with “I’m a free spirit. Like open bars with booze.”)

The press release says: “The first verse is all playful lyricism, but the second adds layers of meaning. From the positive aspects of bars (lyrics) and BBQs (food and community) to a contrast in language: “Sickness in every CELL and there’s more addiction/From what’s stored in kitchens to us stored in prisons/That’s BARS and BBQ's”.”

The album (out October 31) is “a project about embracing change, challenging comfort zones, and seeking renewal amidst uncertainty” - which I think a LOT of people can relate to. I cannot wait to hear more of it.

  • Christine

“Wreck” by Neko Case

Neko Case is back! Last week the iconic singer released a brand new song, “Wreck” and announced her first new album since 2018’s Hell On.

“Wreck” is a soaring new track, a great tease for the album, entitled Neon Grey Midnight Green, which was largely recorded live off the floor in Neko’s own studio in Vermont. Case produced the album herself, saying: “There are so few producers who are women, nonbinary, or trans. People don’t think of us as an option. I’m proud to say I produced this record. It is my vision. It is my veto power. It is my taste.”

You can pick up the new album, Neon Grey Midnight Green on September 26, and Neko Case will be hitting the road with her band this fall for a lengthy tour, including a stop here in Vancouver at the Vogue Theatre.

“Neon Cowgirl” feat. Neil Finn by Tami Neilson

Canadian-born, New Zealand-based artist Tami Neilson has released the title track from her album Neon Cowgirl, (referencing the large neon cowgirl on Broadway in Nashville) which was released this past Friday.

The song features Neil Finn (of Crowded House) and the story of what Neil and the band meant to Tami is a beautiful one:
"I wish I could time travel and play this song for past versions of myself.

The teenager sleeping on the floor on a mattress after her family band had lost everything. She got a job at the makeup counter of a local pharmacy. Her small paycheque supported all five of them for a while. “Fall at Your Feet” by Crowded House played multiple times a day through the pharmacy speakers. She sang the harmony quietly, feeling defeated and wondering if she’d ever be in music again.

The 27 year old who sat in the audience with her brother Jay in the darkness of Toronto’s Massey Hall, listening to Neil Finn and his brother Tim sing “Disembodied Voices", a song about siblings. She grabbed Jay's hand while they both cried, knowing she was moving across the world to New Zealand in just a few weeks.

2 decades later, I walked through the doors of the Ryman Auditorium to fulfill a lifelong dream of performing on that stage for the first time. Neil had invited me to open for Crowded House - the Kiwis invading Nashville! Jay was by my side, my husband and children in the wings, the Finns watching side stage, the audience were on their feet and the Neon Cowgirl shone down on us all."

  • Christine

“Naive” by Softcult

Ontario-based sibling duo Softcult released their latest single last week, “Naive”.

The new track is a dreamy, shoegaze vibe, with the band elaborating, “It’s about coming to the painful realization that the person, idea, or reality we trusted and believed in never really existed in the first place. This song is about the moment the scales fall from our eyes after we realize we’ve been romanticising someone or the idea of someone. After this moment we’re no longer able to see them or the world as innocently as we did before.”

You can check out the moody video below, and keep an eye out for when they hit The Pearl here in Vancouver on October 16!

  • Kirk

“A Scourge Laid Upon The Earth” by Mappe Of

Of course I’m going to immediately listen to a song called “A Scourge Laid Upon The Earth”.

The new track is the latest from Mappe Of — moniker of “multi-disciplinary, multi-instrumentalist and musical visionary” Tom Meikle — and comes with the announcement of a new album, Afterglades, which is an “experimental sci-fi-folk record about reckoning with the end of the world alongside the people you love.”

“A Scourge Laid Upon The Earth” swings wildly from eerily calm to chaotic post-rock, and was the last song written for the album, as Tom explains, “It felt like there needed to be a sense of weight to this chapter of the story, there needed to be some chaos as a payoff for all of this reflection. This is in many ways the extinction level event. It needed to be heavy and raucous, retribution for all of our mistakes. It’s a bit of my dormant heavy metal energy emerging from me.”

They released a a performance of the song filmed live at Catherine North, and you can grab the new album Afterglades when it’s out on September 19 via Paper Bag Records

Songs of the Week: September 30 - October 06, 2023

October 07, 2024 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day, Songs Of The Week

“A Day In The Life” by Shad

Holy crap we have a whole new EP from Shad!

Four brand new songs from the EP Reel Speakers were released last week. Of how it came to be, Shad says:
“Last summer, I decided to write, record, and release a two (or three) verse freestyle every week for 10 weeks on Instagram. I did it as a creative exercise, a fun way to connect with community, and also a tribute to some of my favourite beats for Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary. Those freestyles sparked a collaboration with the super dope producer and artist 14KT, a longtime favourite that I connected with in-person in 2019 at the DJ Jazzy Jeff’s incredible Playlist Retreat. What began with KT crafting a beat for one of those freestyles spiraled up into this project.”

You can listen and download to the whole EP on Bandcamp by clicking here, and I chose “A Day In The Life” for this week’s song based on the line about taking naps (which made me laugh). Give them all a listen!

  • Chrsitine

“Baby” by Basia Bulat

Oh boy, this just jumped to the top of my most anticipated albums for next year so far. Last week, Basia Bulat announced her newest album, Basia’s Palace, as well as the first single, “Baby”.

The new song is a fun, upbeat tune that spotlights the Montreal singer’s amazing voice, with Basia explaining,
“I wrote this song many years ago but never could get the lyrics and performance quite right. I wanted to try it again after becoming a parent–it’s about how we can’t control how or when we’re going to evolve even when we desperately want to. We keep making the same mistakes until we notice a pattern repeating, and even then, change is hard when we have to fully surrender to it. Could I make that predicament something I wanted to dance to? Could I sing the lyrics with joy instead of the sorrow I was channeling in the past? Nothing in my life has made me want to evolve faster, better, stronger than parenthood and the universe keeps throwing that desire back at me with a laugh and a wink, reminding me that things take time and to just love myself for being human. So this song from my past I couldn’t let go of finally made it onto a record–after all the times I tried to get it right I knew I finally had ‘the take’ when my daughter kept asking to hear it again.”

Basia’s Palace is out on February 21 of next year, via Secret City Records, and you can check out the amazing one-take video below (someone remind me of this when the next Prism Prize for music videos rolls around!)

“Neon Signs” by The Weather Station

And another addition to my most anticipated for 2025 is the upcoming Humanhood from The Weather Station!

Toronto’s Tamara Lindeman announced the new album for The Weather Station with the instantly-captivating lead single “Neon Lights”, of which she says,
“I wrote ‘Neon Signs’ at a moment of feeling confused, upside down, at that moment when even desire falls away, and dissociation cuts you loose from a story that while wrong, still held things together. The song came with multiple strands entwined; the way that something that is not true seems to have more energetic intensity than something that is, the confusion of being bombarded with advertising at a moment of climate emergency, the confusion of relationships where coercion is wrapped in the language of love. Ultimately though, isn’t it all the same feeling?”

Humanhood drops January 17 on Next Door Records, and you can watch the video, directed by Lindeman, below!

  • Kirk

“Jocelyn” by The Beaches

Totally forgot to post this one last week!

The Beaches released a new track titled “Jocelyn” dedicated to their fans, and revolving around their new-found audience.

“We wanted to write about the experience of feeling undeserving of all the reverence that was being thrown away after 'Blame My Ex' did so well. All of us in the band are just a bunch of messy girls, and we felt strange about the way that some people were putting us on pedestals,” says singer Jordan Miller.

“Blame My Ex” co-writter Lowell kept singing the name “Jocelyn” and the band decided to seek out a fan with the same name. “We kind of wrote it about this brilliant young woman, and about the experience we were going through, feeling uncomfortable and undeserving of Jocelyn's adulation.”

“Black Averageness” by Shad

This new banger from Shad is one of those songs of him that you need to put on repeat in order to get all the amazing references/lines.

While “Black Averageness” has cheeky Canadian Tire and Swiss Chalet mentions, the song as a whole is about being okay with just being human. This theme -and losing touch with our humanity as a whole - are found throughout the rest of his new album TAO. The record was released on October 1st, and definitely deserves attention from your earholes

“Better Now” by The Weather Station

It’s been a heck of a year for The Weather Station. Between TV appearances and Polaris Short Lists and everything in between, it’s almost hard to remember that Tamara Lindeman’s latest album Ignorance only came out at the start of the year.

But she’s not slowing down at all; with some tour dates looming (including here in Vancouver at the Hollywood Theatre on Nov 12), Lindeman just announced the release of a brand new DELUXE version of Ignorance. The two-LP version will include the original album, as well as live & piano versions of some songs, plus two brand new songs!

Check out the first of those songs, “Better Now”, below and stream the album on your platform of choice. OR mark November 19 on the calendar for the physical release.

“Rose Coloured Ear Drums” by Big Kill

After months of teasing, we’re finally getting our first taste of Big Kill. Rising from the ashes of We Are The City, Cayne McKenzie and Andrew Huculiak launched the first single from their new project Big Kill last week. And “Rose Coloured Ear Drums” lives up to every promise they’ve made, an incredibly infectious “destructive pop” tune.

You can grab the song — as well as a few others — on Big Kill Future, which they’re promising is not an EP, but an album with more songs to come! Listen to those new songs here, or check out the INCREDIBLE video for “Rose Coloured Ear Drums” below.

Songs of the Week: August 16 - 22, 2021

August 23, 2021 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day, Songs Of The Week

“Don’t Get Pushed Around (feat. Shad)” by Dave Monks

I will literally listen to ANY SONG that has the words “featuring Shad” next to the title, but seeing as it was a new song from the solo work of Tokyo Police Club frontman Dave Monks, I was going to listen no matter what.

Ironically enough, the song below is in Lyric Video form, but the only lyrics Monks says over and over are the ones in the track title: “Don’t Get Pushed Around”. Shad comes in about two thirds of the way into it and raises the word count instantly with his verse.

It’s a super catchy track and you can find it on his upcoming album I’ve Always Wanted To Be Me when it’s released on October 15th! (PS Shad’s new album TAO is out on October 1st!)

  • Christine

“Vortex” by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

16 years ago Nick Cave put out a three-disc collection of b-sides and rarities called, well, B-Sides & Rarities. In that time he’s released four new albums with The Bad Seeds, as well as other projects, so it looks like it’s time for a follow up!

B-Sides & Rarities Part II contains 27 rare and unreleased tracks spanning 2006-2020, including first recordings of songs, new versions of old favourites — like a live recording of “Push The Sky Away” with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra — and unreleased tracks — like “Vortex”, a song that lives in the space between The Bad Seeds and side project Grinderman.

The new collection comes out on October 22 as a double vinyl or double CD, OR you can get a combo of Part I and Part II as a Limited Edition Deluxe Seven (7!) Vinyl Box Set.

  • Kirk

“Nothing Left To Find” by Del Barber

I wanted to include this live version of “Nothing Left To Find” by Del Barber this week because his new album Stray Dogs was released on Friday.
The album consists of a polished and reworked collection of songs and unfinished demos that Del had stored up. Using his time during the pandemic to put them together the result is a superb example of why Del is one of Canada’s best songwriters and story-tellers. Give the new record a listen!

“Strange Calm” & “Silver Lining” by Jasper Sloan Yip

Two more new tracks are now out from Vancouver’s Jasper Sloan Yip, whose new double EP, STRANGE CALM/BLUSHING AUTUMN, will be released October 26th.

Jasper says of title track off of the Strange Calm side of the EP is about how it is “an overwhelming time to be alive”. This is probably putting it mildly, but the song is slow and yes, is indeed calming. It’s definitely my favourite of the new releases so far.

”Silver Lining” was penned after hearing two ghost-adjacent stories that had Jasper thinking of the human soul and the idea that a part of us might go on forever.

Check em both out below!

Songs of the Week: May 24 - 31, 2021

“All Roads” by Arkells

Not content with one potential “Song of the Summer” (with their banger “You Can Get It”, released in March), Arkells are back with another candidate: “All Roads”.

Frontman Max Kerman says “As we start to find our footing on a road back to some normalcy in our lives the sentiment ‘all roads lead me back to you’ is about trying to find your way back home. Home could be a person, a place, or a personal truth - the goal is to keep moving, keep learning, and you’ll find your way."
A perfect sentiment for the upcoming summer, the video also fits that vibe with a long drone shot following the band members at sunrise.

“Scratching Static (feat NNAMDÏ)” by Royal Canoe

Royal Canoe has revealed another track from their upcoming album Sidelining, out July 9th. “Scratching Static” features vocals from NNAMDÏ, and comes with a delightful video that is comprised entirely of animated gifs, appropriate to both the music and lyrics of the song. As someone that prides himself on his ability to find the perfect gif for any situation, I am very enamoured with this video.
Take a look below!

“Remember 01” by The Halluci Nation
ft. John Trudell & Black Bear

A Tribe Called Red is now The Halluci Nation - and with the name change, a new single (“Remember 01”) and upcoming album - One More Saturday Night out July 30th.

You might recognize the voice in the video from the previous album We Are The Halluci Nation - it’s poet and activist John Trudell.
The song is an ode to him and his words that inspired the group and as it says in the press release, “the video can be compared to that of a trailer for a movie about the birth of The Halluci Nation”.

I cannot wait for more, and for the day when I can see them perform live again!

“Work” by Shad
ft. Skratch Bastid

This new song by Shad literally make my jaw drop. It hits so hard, has all of the classic Shad wit in the lyrics and features Skratch Bastid, so naturally I love it.

Then I cocked my head to the side and was like: “Wait…I know this drum beat.” - it took me a few second to realize it was sampled from a We Are The City song called “When I Dream I Dream Of You”.

Excuse me while I go listen to it 100 more times.

“Eulogy Of Regret” by Rich Aucoin

This coming Friday, Rich Aucoin is releasing the Deluxe Edition of last year’s United States. The new version includes remixes from the likes of Double A, Steve Bays, and Shmu, as well as a bonus disc featuring instrumental versions of all the album tracks (for all your karaoke needs?)
To celebrate, Rich released a video for “Eulogy of Regret” which he says was “the last track written for United States and was the only one not conceived somewhere while on the bicycle. I wrote it for director/musician/multi-disciplinary artist Dustin Harvey. Dustin hired me to write a 7 minute version of the song for a short film/theatre piece he was working on called How Quickly Things Change. I liked the song and ended up cutting a track for United States so “Eulogy Of Regret” could take its place. Now, full circle, Dustin and his team have made a shorter piece which also doubles an appropriate music video for the song. Some excellent animation by Aiden Searle and acting by Stephanie Yee."

  • Kirk

“Out Of Touch (Feat. Phoenix Pagliacci)” by Shad

Gonna be honest - I was a little upset that this wasn’t a Hall & Oates cover - but I’ll take new music by Shad any day!
This single “Out Of Touch” is the first new music we’ve had from him since his album A Short Story About A War, so I hope this means more is on the horizon.
It’s a perfect song to listen to out in the new spring sunshine and warmth. Enjoy!

“Oh Stanley Cup” by Elliott BROOD

When this landed in my inbox, I got VERY excited. Not only did Elliott BROOD remake the country song “Red Solo Cup” to be about the Stanley Cup (I’m a huge hockey fan), but they want to make a video with people in their hockey gear singing along:

”We’d love to get as many people as possible to send us a recording of themselves or in groups singing along to the chorus parts: “Oh Stanley Cup…. I lift you up…..let’s have a party!… “Oh Stanley Cup…. I fill you up…..proceed to party!…

Just record yourself or groups on your phone signing along in your team gear (if you have it) or in your hockey den or wherever you want. (horizontally preferably) and send it to the email address below.

We’d love to see whole families, groups of friends, pets in team gear…. you get the idea.

If you’re more the shy type, you could alternatively send in your hockey photos or memories including but not limited to: Pictures of you or family with the Stanley Cup - Footage of rec league or peewee games - Still shots of you in your team gear.”

And you can email it to: ohstanleycup@gmail.com

You better believe I’m sending them the photo of me below!
