2015 Polaris Music Prize Short List

The Polaris Music Prize announced their short list this morning, trimming the list down from 40 albums to the 10 best albums of the last year. Each of these artists is already guaranteed $3,000, and the big winner will be awarded $50,000 at the gala on September 21st. They also announced that the show this year will be hosted by none other than Fred Penner.

#MusicalNooners at the CBC Plaza (July 13-17)

CBC Vancouver has released the acts performing this week for their #MusicalNooners series.
All concerts start at noon and run til 1pm on the CBC Plaza at 700 Hamilton Street. Here's what you can expect:

Monday, July 13 - Little India
This young Vancouver band has been hitting some of the biggest festival stages in town and winning enormous online audiences in the UK with their tuneful and energetic music. Don't miss their fresh, upbeat show! 

Tuesday, July 14 - Paul Pigat
Jaw dropping guitar chops and great singing define this creative force behind Cousin Harley and Boxcar Campfire. Paul brings bass player Jeff Gammon and drummer Barry Mirochnick to the Nooners stage for some rockin' and swingin' good times. 

Wednesday, July 15 - Mindil Beach
A skillful blending of rock, hip hop, funk and folk, Mindil Beach creates a sonic cocktail that is equal parts

BreakOut West 2015

BreakOut West announced their 2015 Festival line-up this morning, which they call a "multi-genre set of showcases spanning the very best of up and coming western Canadian talent." 

The showcases will run alongside the Rifflandia Festival (which itself has a pretty great lineup) at venues across Victoria from September 17- 20, and you can find artists like Bend Sinister, BESTiE, Boreal Sons, Gay Nineties, JPNSGRLS, Leeroy Stagger, Rococode, SAVVIE, Shred Kelly, The Matinee, The Wet Secrets, and a whole ton more! 

As well as the festival, the West Coast Music Awards Gala, hosted by Grant Lawrence, will take place on the Sunday at the McPherson Playhouse, with performances from Tanya Tagaq, The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer, Annette, Sarah MacDougall, and the 2015 Hall of Fame inductees NoMeansNo!

So head over to Vancouver Island this September to check it out!
