Song of the Day: July 21, 2018 - "Date Night" by Father John Misty

July 21, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Scrolling through my inbox I saw the words "Father John Misty" and "Chad VanGaalen" in the same line, there was no question I was going to open it.

Chad illustrated a video for FJM's song "Date Night" and it's as wonderful as you would imagine.

You can catch Father John Misty at the Skookum Festival in September.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Song of the Day: July 20, 2018 - "Come Alive" by Stephanie Ratcliff

July 20, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Ease your way into your Friday morning with this delicate tune from Vancouver's Stephanie Ratcliff.

"Come Alive" is the first single off of her upcoming album Land In Unknown Places, which will be out on July 27th.

It's no coincidence that she will be having her album release on the same date, here in Vancouver with Jenny Banai as a guest opener - click here for the details.

Song of the Day: July 19, 2018 - "Kill Me" by Dead Soft

July 19, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Well this is exciting news! BC's own Dead Soft just signed with Arts & Crafts last week, and released a new single, "Kill Me", from their forthcoming album New Emotion.

The EP will be released in the fall (via Arts & Crafts, obviously), and the band is heading out on tour with The Dirty Nil starting in October - with a show at the Biltmore on November 3rd.

If you can't wait until then, they play tonight at Fortune with Great Grandpa!

July 18, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Like I said in this week's Gigs Of The Week, I'm playing softball tonight, and am upset I'm missing the Living With Lions show with Seaway tonight at the Biltmore.

The Vancouver band just released a new song/video called "Tidal Wave" from their album Island that is coming out in September. Check it out below and please go to the show on my behalf tonight!

Song of the Day: July 17, 2018 - "Feel Like That" by Washboard Union

July 17, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

The Washboard Union have a new video for their song "Feel Like That" from their new album What We're Made Of.

It's a catchy one about coming back to your hometown after leaving it to do your thing in the world. Have a listen below/watch the video (I won't spoil it).

Song of the Day: June 16, 2018 - "Ginger Ale" by Hotel Mira

July 16, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

We're just over a month away from the debut EP from Hotel Mira (out August 17) and getting another tease with the brand new song "Ginger Ale".

Singer Charlie Kerr says it's about "going on a date when I was on tour in London. And everything was going well but then I kept losing my train of thought by having these random, horrible flashbacks to fucked up things in my childhood. It got to the point where I could hardly hold a conversation. Becky, if you're reading this, you are a wonderful, Scottish flower and I apologize for being so distracted and out of sorts that evening."

Song of the Day: July 15, 2018 - "Dark Place" by Youngblood

July 15, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Probably my most anticipated new release for the rest of the year is Youngblood's upcoming EP, Fantasy Love, due out on August 17th.

"Dark Place" is the second peek we're getting at it, a song that singer Alexis Young describes says "speaks to the masochistic tendency of repeatedly making the same mistake and not understanding the compromising effects of that until it's too late. Sometimes you really need to have something completely fall apart and be destroyed before you are able to fully understand its value. It is the thrilling allure of pressing the self-sabotage button and watching what unfolds before you."

Song of the Day: July 14, 2018 - "Dark Saturday" By Metric

July 14, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

I was, admittedly, not big into Pagans in Vegas, so I was a bit trepidatious going into this new Metric song. But about 15 seconds into "Dark Saturday", all my worries were gone with the glossy synths of their last album replaced by fuzzy guitars.

The band has been hinting at a new album for a while, and this first step has be very excited to hear more of what's to come.
