Song of the Day: February 16, 2018 - "The Fear" by Rich Aucoin

February 16, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Another new song from Rich Aucoin, as well as some tour news.

The new song is called "The Fear" (previous songs were "Release" and "The Middle") and has quite the danceable bass track to it (reminds me of George Michael's "Freedom! ’90").

Rich is releasing the album credits with each song off of the new EP Hold, as well, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out Dan Mangan played guitar on this track! If you follow the link to YouTube and click "Show More" you can see the full listing of instruments and musicians.

Rich had already released some Canadian dates (eastern Canada ones), and announced that he'll be biking across the states in late spring to raise money for mental health! He's starting in LA, and finishing in Philadelphia in June! - You can donate online here (Canadian donations) or at the shows if you happen to catch one (click for city list).

Song of the Day: February 14, 2018 - "Don't Ever Look Back" by Shred Kelly

February 14, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

New video from Shred Kelly's upcoming album Archipelago (out this Feb 16th!).
The video for the song "Don't Ever Look Back" is based on the play 'Heterophobia' by Pam Rocker where "instead of heterosexual relationships being the norm, they are the outliers." Check it out below!

The band rolls into town to perform at the Cobalt on March 31st - more info here!

Song of the Day: February 13, 2018 - "Fool for Waiting" by Dan Mangan

February 13, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

I am sure there are going to be plenty of puns and wordplay based on the title of the new Dan Mangan song, and the fact that it's the first new music from the man in over a year.

But "Fool for Waiting" is a beautiful song that was recorded live off the floor. Coming out a day before Valentine's Day, he says in the YouTube description: "Considering I’ve never really set out to do so before, I wanted to write a classic love song and this is as close as I got. I think the crux of it - the song is about finding someone who makes you feel less crazy, or at least someone who finds your craziness endearing because it’s real and honest. And that real, imperfect love is not always as fantastical or magical as a wild romance, but that it’s worth waiting for."

Hopefully the new tune brings a new album with it, so keep your ears out!

Song of the Day: February 06, 2018 - "Burn That Bridge" by Donovan Woods

February 06, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I can hear this song as a big beautiful sing-a-long already.

Donovan Woods just announced a new album (Both Ways - out April 20) and released a new single titled "Burn That Bridge". It's catchy and definitely an ear worm, and I'm hoping that the rest of the album is much of the same.

The press release says: "Donovan Woods’ new album, Both Ways, is less an LP and more a collection of short stories and anecdotes brought to life with radio-ready acoustic accompaniments and Woods’ low, stirring, and unmistakable rasp."

I'm definitely looking forward to this one!

Song of the Day: February 05, 2018 - "On Your Own" by Bad Pop

February 05, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Bad Pop (the bad formerly known as Hot Panda) have released another new single (though if you've been following them since their Hot Panda days, you might just find it familiar).

"On Your Own" is a little more chilled out than their recent singles, and lead singer Chris Connelly says: "“On Your Own” explores the exhilaration and sadness of being out in the world, as a real-deal adult, on your own. It’s a relatable feeling for everyone who has experienced the cold reality and loneliness of adulthood - not the “I can vote for the first time” type of adulthood, but the heavier kind."

Song of the Day: February 03, 2018 - "House Of Glass" by Holy Fuck

February 03, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I think all that you need to know with this one is that Ft. Langley (that duo behind some awesome/award winning Aidan Knight videos) created an anti-Trump short film, and that Holy Fuck's song "House of Glass" is the soundtrack.

Check it out below:

February 01, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

So back in November we got the first single from Chromeo ("Juice") with promise of a new album in 2018.

This week we learned they'll be kicking off a world tour on April 3rd, right here in Vancouver at the Commodore Ballroom - to support the album, Head Over Heels, (released this spring).

And on top of that, a new single titled "Bedroom Calling" featuring The-Dream, which you can check out below.

Song of the Day: January 31, 2018 - "9 to 5" by Harrison Brome

January 31, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Vancouver's own Harrison Brome has released another song from his upcoming Body High EP (due out March 30) called "9 to 5".

To say this kid (he's only 21) has blown up over the last few years would be an understatement. I've always said his incredible songwriting and intricate mix of genres has felt ahead of his years.
I'm excited to see just how far he goes, esp. if he keeps putting out songs like these!
