Song of the Day: June 12, 2017 - "Freeze Me" by Death From Above 1979

June 12, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

It looks like the reunion of Jesse F Keeler and Sebastien Grainger wasn't just a one-off, because we have some brand new music from Death From Above 1979.

The song is called "Freeze Me" and I'm not sure if I can describe it any better than the press release: "The mustached merchants of death dance discord made a conscious decision to embrace their own penchant for perpetual motion and cooked up the perfect soundtrack to Armageddon’s dancefloor."

You can hear it below... or in the credits of last night's episode of Silicon Valley!

Song of the Day: June 07, 2017 - "I Will Follow You" by Said the Whale

June 07, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

If you were at the sold out Said the Whale hometown show at the Vogue some weeks back, you might just find yourself in the new video for "I Will Follow You".

Shot live at the show, with a few clips from the road while on tour spliced in, the video captures the passion and energy of not just the band, but the mass of fans jumping, clapping, and yelling along.

The song is off their latest album, As Long As Your Eyes Are Wide, which came out earlier this year.

Song of the Day: June 06, 2017 - "Die Alone" by Whitehorse

June 06, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

As we get closer to the July 7th release of the new Whitehorse album, Panther in the Dollhouse, they've teased us once again with "Die Alone".

The video for the haunting song is just the pair of Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland alone on stage in front of the appropriately empty Massey Hall theatre.

They've also announced the first leg of their tour to support the album, including a show right here in Vancouver on October 19th at the Vogue Theatre!

Song of the Day: June 05, 2017 - "All the Hail Marys" by The Dears

June 05, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

It was 8 years ago (well, 8 years and a few days now) that 3am Revelations launched in its first iteration, and the inaugural post was about one of my favourite bands, The Dears.

So it's pretty good timing that they have released another new song from the upcoming Times Infinity Vol. 2, which will be out July 14th on Paper Bag Records.

The new song is called "All the Hail Marys" and Murray Lightburn says it is a good representation of the pair of Times Infinity albums: "The working title for the entire Times Infinity project was Hail Marys. The song 'All The Hail Marys' was a model for the sound of the whole project. I always wanted this to be the first thing anyone heard from The Dears in a long time. In the end, it was decided that it would be on Times Infinity Volume Two as we didn’t want to front load the project too much with what was selected for Volume One. This is easily one my fave D's tracks of all time, maybe in the top ten."

He also gives a sly nod to another Canadian musician: "Fun fact: I paraphrase/quote Peaches, whom I love, singing, 'Fuck the pain, fuck the pain, and the suffering, away…' I meant to email her about it beforehand, but I’ve only ever met her once. I hold her in very high regard and basically got too shy, and couldn’t come up with the right words, if you can believe that."

Song of the Day: June 03, 2017 - "Everything Now" by Arcade Fire

June 03, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

June 1st we saw the release of a new tune from Arcade Fire, "Everything Now" as well as a massive concert announcement - including a show here in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum on October 14th.

The new tune sounds like an electronic ABBA track (specifically "Dancing Queen") with the signature airy vocals from Win Butler, and gang vocals Arcade Fire is known for. Give it a listen below:

Song of the Day: June 02, 2017 - "Motor Inn" by Lanikai

June 02, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

You may remember Marti Sarbit as the powerhouse vocalist behind Imaginary Cities, but since that band announced the dreaded "indefinite hiatus", she's started a new project called Lanikai. Their self-titled debut was released last year, full of soulful, 60s art-pop gems, including "Motor Inn" which she just released a new video for.

Marti says: "Motor Inn was the first song I recorded with my friend and producer Thomas D'Arcy. It kind of set the tone for the direction we wanted to take with the rest of the songs. The lyrics are about what it's like to feel your head spinning, you're losing control of a situation, and really just need to remove yourself to gain some clarity. I also make a stupid/fun reference to Hunter S. Thompson's funeral in the bridge.”

Check it out below!
