January 28, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

We're finally about to get a proper, debut album fro Lion Bear Fox (whom seem to have dropped the three "The"'s from their name).

The self-titled album from the Vancouver trio will come out on February 17th and the new single is called "Battle Of Me". Have a listen:

Song of the Day: January 27, 2017 - "Swimming in Strange Waters" by The Wooden Sky

January 27, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

New music from The Wooden Sky!

"Swimming In Stranger Waters" is the title track off the new album (out on April 7th), is a rocking, yet danceable tune; then you learn about the subject matter. Lead singer Gavin Gardiner weaves in lyrics, being the driving drums and guitars, about the effects of his grandfather's sexual abuse of his mother on his family.

The whole upcoming album seems to be a powerful message, set to include a song inspired by refugee families and the Keystone pipeline. Needless to say, I cannot wait to hear more.

Song of the Day: January 25, 2017 - "Sewer Blues" by Timber Timbre

January 25, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Timber Timbre's announcement of a new record has come at just the right time. Inspired by the American political climate during 2016, Sincerely, Future Pollution, is going to be a "document of this generation's degeneration and disarray".

Of the album, lead singer Taylor Kirk says this:
“2016 was a very difficult time to observe. I hate to admit that normally I express more sensitivity than concern politically, but I think the tone and result on the record is utter chaos and confusion. When we were recording, the premonition was that the events we saw unfolding were an elaborate hoax. But the mockery made of our power system spawned a lot of dark, dystopic thoughts and ideas. And then it all happened, while everyone was on Instagram. The sewers overflowed.”

Speaking of sewers overflowing, here is the first single, "Sewer Blues".

Song of the Day: January 24, 2017 - "DDPP" by Five Alarm Funk

January 24, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I had a busy week last week, and have been playing catch up and clean up around my house/office. When the new song "DDPP" by Vancouver's Five Alarm Funk landed in my inbox, my productivity went up rather high and cleaning turned into a "Dance Dance Party Party".

The band has a new album (appropriately titled Sweat) coming out on March 3rd, (and a Canadian tour announcement soon) but in the meantime, check out the new single below!

Song of the Day: January 23, 2017 - "Boys Like You" by Whitehorse

January 23, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Only three weeks in to the new year and I've already got what's sure to be one of my favourite songs of 2017, thanks to Whitehorse.

"Boys Like You" is a back-and-forth between two characters; the overly cocky Luke Doucet and the bitingly acerbic Melissa McClelland. The press release says This one’s not for the drunk sad bastards, but for those who have to deal with them, and I couldn't describe it better myself.

Song of the Day: January 19, 2017 - "The Next Blue Sky" by Bill & Joel Plaskett

January 19, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

The father & son duo of Bill & Joel Plaskett have another tease of their upcoming album with "The Next Blue Sky" which is a song about greener pastures.

“Go west, they say,” says Joel in the press release. “That's been the story out east for years. Chasing some work, a safe haven, or the next blue sky. Or maybe just to get out from the shadows cast by the glassy trade centre they dropped on Argyle Street. The march of progress is no parade.”

Solidarity is out February 15, and catch them on tour later in the year, including a date in Vancouver at the Vogue on April 1st!
