Song of the Day: January 12, 2017 - "The Road" by Lydia Ainsworth

January 12, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

One of my favourite sleeper albums of '014 was Right From Real by Lydia Ainsworth, and now we're on the heels of her followup, called Darling of the Afterglow.

It's out March 31st but you can get a taste with the orchestral electronica vibes of the first single "The Road" right now. Check out the captivating video below, and make sure you're at the Fox Cabaret here in Vancouver on May 4th to see her live.

Song of the Day: January 11, 2017 - "Gravity" by Amelia Curran

January 11, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

East coast artist Amelia Curran has announced that a new album will be coming in March (10th), and will be titled Watershed.

The first single, "Gravity" is upbeat and catchy and is short and sweet, at only 2 minutes and 23 seconds, so I'll let the song speak for itself! Stream it on Spotify below:

Song of the Day: January 10, 2017 - "Elevator" by Young Rival

January 10, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Young Rival has released a video for their song "Elevator" from the album Interior Light that only took...oh...over two years to make.

Apparently using a "dot-matrix" system on an old printer can create something this beautiful. Check out the song and video below!

Song of the Day: January 09, 2017 - "Shapeshifter" by JP Maurice

January 09, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

New music from JP Maurice! "Shapeshifter" is the first single off his new EP called Girls (though you might have heard a few of the other songs from his time in the Peak Performance Project).

There will be a full length album later this year titled Boys, but in the meantime catch the live show/EP release this Saturday at the Biltmore Cabaret (Jan 14), and the new song below!

Song of the Day: January 08, 2017 - "I Never Asked" by Hello Delaware

January 08, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

While "I Never Asked" isn't quite a new song, last year's Hello Delaware album My Mistake only recently made its way to my earholes.

If you (like me) miss Rilo Kiley or are looking for a Jenny Lewis vibe, I would definitely suggest putting the Daniel Ledwell-produced album in your earholes, too.

Song of the Day: January 07, 2017 - "Born Yesterday" by Hollerado

January 07, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

So much new music coming out this month! Today we've got another one from Hollerado, who have their 4th album on the way in the next few months.

The new single is called "Born Yesterday" and sounds a bit closer to vintage Hollerado with the catchy sing-a-long chorus (and the ooo-OOO-ooo-OOO's), and is very guitar-driven.

The band will be in Vancouver on Feb 7th with Sam Roberts at the Orpheum, which I cannot wait for - it's going to be a great show.

Song of the Day: January 06, 2017 - "Decadent Days" by Gay Nineties

January 06, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Saxamaphonnnnne! That's pretty much how the new song, "Decadent Days", by the Gay Nineties starts off. The new single was released today ahead of the full album (Big Love) release on January 27th.

The song has shades of Bowie, and a sing-a-long chorus, with driving bass and drums, and of course, a saxophone solo mid-song. If it's any indication of the rest of the album, my excitement for the new music is growing

Song of the Day: January 05, 2017 - "Step Into The Darkness" by Said the Whale

January 05, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Forget everything you knew about Said the Whale. The Vancouver band is back, but may look a little different than you remember them. Slimmed down to a three piece -- Tyler, Ben, and Jaycelyn -- they're gearing up for the release of their new album As Long As Your Eyes Are Wide with the new single "Step Into The Darkness", a synth-driven song that builds to a soaring chorus.

The album is out March 31st, and I'll be interested to hear the rest of it. What do you think?
