Song of the Day: March 15, 2016 - "Swan" by WILLA

March 15, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Ali Milner's pop outfit WILLA has released another single ahead of her debut album Criminals & Dreamers (set for May 6th), titled "Swan".

I've heard her do this one live several times and it's always captivating, and now we have a recording of it!

WILLA is currently in the Toronto/Ontario area for most of March, performing at in and around the city. And hopefully we'll get a music video from her soon as well (I know one is coming because I got to be in the background).

Song of the Day: March 14, 2016 - "Teenage Autumn Nights" by Jeremy Allingham

March 14, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Jeremy Allingham [Like A Martyr, Factories & Alleyways] is about to release a new solo record called Memory Electric this week on March 18th, with a show at the Biltmore on the same day.

We're excited to release the first single from the album, titled "Teenage Autumn Nights".

Of the tune Jeremy says: "The song's all about some of the crazy shenanigans me and my friends got into growing up out in Langley! Going to shows, driving around places we shouldn'tve (baseball fields), getting in fights (hugely ill-advised haha), an "incident" with the police and generally just being lunatics in love."

Check it out below and be sure to see the show at the Biltmore with guests Westwinds.

Song of the Day: March 12, 2016 - "How Now" by Snowblink

March 12, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

It's been a while since we have heard anything from Toronto's Snowblink, and I am so excited for this new song. Since their last album, they've collaborated with the likes of Leslie Feist and AroarA, even forming the supergroup Hydra.

But they recently signed with Outside Music, and the dreamy and ethereal "How Now" is the first single on the label. Check it out below and try not to close your eyes and be launched into space

Song of the Day: March 11, 2016 - "Swimming Away" by Great Lake Swimmers

March 11, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Great Lake Swimmers have announced that they will be releasing a new EP titled Swimming Away, on March 25th. The album will have 4 songs, two of which will be covers (Tom Waits, and PJ Harvey).

The originals are one commissioned song for the series Torn From The Pages called "Condition White" and an outtake from the last album A Forest Of Arms, and today's Song Of The Day, "Swimming Away".

The band have also announced a few spring tour dates out east co-headlining with Elliott Brood, AND a show on May 13th at my (and lead singer Tony Dekker's) old high school, Lakeshore Catholic High School in Port Colborne.
I remember seeing Maestro Fresh Wes in Grade 9 when I was there, so I'm sure it's going to be a strange feeling to perform there after so long.

Oh, and they'll be back in BC in August for the Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival.

Song of the Day: March 08, 2016 - "Forever Young" by David Vertesi

March 08, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Super exciting news, David Vertesi has released a new song! It's titled "Forever Young" and features fellow Vancouverite, Rosemary Fairweather.

No, it's not a cover of that Alphaville song, though I hope the music video for the song will pay an homage, because I'd like to see that.

The song is an upbeat and danceable track that is sure to get you moving this Tuesday morning, and has me curious what else will appear on April 22nd on the new album (which just so happens to be called Sad Dad Cruise Ship!).

Also announced were some tour dates from April and May, and as I went to put the Vancouver date of May 7th in the calendar, I realized it was already there! He'll be opening up for Said The Whale at their Sold Out show at the Fox Cabaret.

Check out the song below!
