Song Of The Day: August 14, 2015 - "Trust" Half Moon Run

August 14, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

It seems like every band that you've wanted new material from/that hasn't put any music out in years is coming out of the woodwork!

So when I heard that Half Moon Run was going to follow up their 2012 album Dark Eyes with a new record called Sun Leads Me On, on October 23rd, I was excited once again.

They've released a single entitled "Trust" from the forthcoming 13-track album, which you can hear below. It's a little different from the Half Moon Run we know from Dark Eyes, but I've already listened to it about a dozen times and can't wait for the full album, and subsequent tour!

3am Playlist #8: Come Friday

The Cobalt
August 13, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in 3am Playlist

Come Friday, it will be the last ever "Come Friday" event at the Cobalt. [insert sad face]

It's the end of an era; three years and more than sixty-five bands later, one last party will be had under the Come Friday moniker, with a handful of past artists performing both an original and a cover tune from 7pm onwards into the night.

Taking the stage on August 14th will be: Greenback High, ACTORS, Girlfriends and Boyfriends, Phoenix Thunderbird, 42, Sex With Strangers, and Medium Cool.

We asked the creator of it all, Trevor Risk, to put a playlist together of songs by some of the artists that have graced the Come Friday stage. Click the image above, or here, to hear the 22 song playlist, and be sure to head out to the Cobalt tomorrow for one last ride.

Song Of The Day: August 13, 2015 - "Body" by Young Galaxy

August 13, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

If you've been missing the amazing voice of Catherine McCandless, then you're in luck, because Young Galaxy is back with a brand new song.

The new album Falsework comes out October 30 on Paper Bag Records and the first single is a bouncy, synth-fuelled dance song called "Body".

Song Of The Day: August 11, 2015 - "40 Days & 40 Nights" Ben Caplan

August 11, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

A new Ben Caplan song is out, titled "40 Days & 40 Nights", with an album set to follow and a tour after that.

Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers will be in Vancouver in October 26th at the Biltmore, but in the meantime, enjoy the new single, which is full of soul, and one of my favourite things huh-huh-huh-HORN SECTION!

Song Of The Day: August 10, 2015 - "Mountain At My Gates" Foals

August 10, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Really digging the new single from UK band Foals that was released recently, titled "Mountain At My Gates".

Their new album What Went Down is due out on August 28th, and if this slow builder is any indication, it's going to be a great record.

Song Of The Day: August 08, 2015 - "Replacement Things" David Newberry

August 08, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

It's always sad when we lose another musician to Toronto, and I was very bummed when David Newberry announced he was heading back to Ontario. BUT the bright side is that musician tour, a LOT, and I knew it wouldn't be long until we'd see him again.

That 'again' will be September 13th at the Hindenburg with The Nautical Miles, just two days after his latest album, Replacement Things, is released.

In the meantime we've got a live video (from the Biltmore!) of the title track by the same name to tide us over (pun fully intended with the press photo up there, which I too got in the water to shoot - fun fact).

Happy Saturday everyone!

Song(s) Of The Day: August 07, 2015 - “Freedom! '15” and "Sick Ass Moon" by !!!

August 07, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Not content with just one lead single, Californian dance-punk band !!! (or Chk Chk Chk if you prefer something you can say out loud) has released two songs from their upcoming album As If.

The album comes out October 16th, but you can hear the first two songs now; the super-dancey "Freedom! '15" (which has got to be a George Michael reference) and the relatively darker "Sick Ass Moon".

Also, that might be my new favourite album cover of the year.
