Song Of The Day: August 06, 2015 - "All My Life I Have Been Running" by Evening Hymns

August 06, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Spectral Dusk -- an album written about the death of frontman Jonas Bonnetta's father -- was one of my favourite albums of '012, so to say I have been eagerly anticipating the followup from Evening Hymns would be an understatement.

"All My Life I Have Been Running" is the first single from the new album Quiet Energies (out September 18 via Outside Music) and is a bit more rock 'n' roll than the haunting, introspective Spectral Dusk, which is no mistake, since Bonnetta says he "needed to write a ripper — a song with a Tom Petty bridge — about accepting who I am and how I perceive the world. Everything has led to this distinct level of clarity that I have now about my Dad passing away."

3am Playlist #7: Phil 'Er Up!

August 06, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in 3am Playlist

[CLICK HERE TO HEAR THE PLAYLIST]

Next week (August 12), another cover night hits the Biltmore Cabaret, but this time it will feature the music of Phil Collins and support the wonderful #SingItFwd program.

Performances will feature members of Hey Ocean, Dear Rouge, Bend Sinister, Rococode, Twin Bandit, Star Captains as well as: Jordan Klassen, JP Maurice, Dominique Fricot, WILLA, and Tonye Aganaba.

I've compiled a playlist of music by the artists, so you can start listening and think about which Phil Collins song you'd like to hear them sing.

And I've also done that myself, and asked Kirk and Jess for their ideal pairings as well.

Song Of The Day: August 05, 2015 - "Wanted" Ben Rogers

August 05, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I've had "Wanted" by Ben Rogers stuck in my head ever since he performed at ShoreFEST just over a week and a bit ago. No, wait, that's a lie, I've had it in my head since I saw the band perform at NXNE in Toronto.

Now you too can get it stuck in your head (in a good way) in anticipation of his new release The Bloodred Yonder which is set to release next week on August 14th! Click below to hear it:

Song Of The Day: August 04, 2015 - "Woman" City and Colour

August 04, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

City and Colour announced their next album If I Should Go Before You which will be released October 9 of this year.

The first single, "Woman", was also released with a lyric video (see below), and is even dreamier and moodier than City and Colour usually tends to be. This might be in part to Dallas using his touring band in the recording process, as he says he wrote the songs because of the musicians. He said: "Anybody who has seen us play will understand that this is the best representation of what we do live that we have ever recorded.".

Song of the Day: August 03, 2015 - "All You Sons And Daughters" by Matthew Good

August 03, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

To celebrate BC day, here is the brand new song from the man who is probably my all-time favourite BC artist, Matthew Good.

On his seventh solo release, Good is promising a "darkly captivating album", and this first single definitely gives that vibe. It's called "All You Sons And Daughters" from the album Chaotic Neutral, which you will be able to pick up on September 25th.

Check it out streaming off his website, or below on spotify.

Song Of The Day: July 31, 2015 - "Movies" Rykka

July 31, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Rykka is back with her first new single since winning the Peak Performance Project back in '013. Splitting her time between Vancouver and Zürich, Switzerland, Rykka was hard at work on the upcoming album and the new song is "about wanting what you can't have. MOVIES tells the story of two rebels and their love affair as a brief escape from the social poverty of life." Rykka explains, continuing "Together, the two protagonists lose themselves in the reality they create together, and fight for their illusion until the end."

And if that wasn't enough, the video was shot inside the Rhône Glacier Cave, a man-made endeavour carved from an 11,500 year old glacier in Switzerland. Check it out below!
