Song of the Day: December 10, 2015 - "The Wolf" by Chersea

December 10, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Another artist from tomorrow's Second Annual Lovecoast + Friends Christmas Benefit!

Chersea and Lovecoast have been band-pals for a while, even getting together to do a pretty solid cover of a favourite of mine, Royal Canoe's "Bathtubs", with Connor Roff and Alexandria Maillot while all four acts were in the CBC Searchlight competition last year.

But today's song of the Day is Chersea's latest, "The Wolf", a powerful and haunting tune that you may have heard while she was in the Top 12 of this year's Peak Performance Project.

Catch Chersea, along with The Katherines, Bazooka Picnic, Kristie McCracken, and, of course, Lovecoast this Friday at the Fox Cabaret.

Song of the Day: December 09, 2015 - "Lullaby" by Kristie McCracken

December 09, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

We're just a couple of days away from The Second Annual Lovecoast + Friends Christmas Benefit, brought to you by your good pals here at 3am Revelations, so I figure we'll take a look at the lineup!

Christine already posted the brand new song from The Katherines last week, so here's a peek at another performer, Kristie McCracken.

"Lullaby" is a beautiful, soft song, living up to its name, as her voice drifts over an acoustic guitar.

Catch Kristie, along with The Katherines,  Bazooka Picnic, Chersea, and, of course, Lovecoast this Friday at the Fox Cabaret.

This song is inspired by all ages and walks of life, and the willingness to learn and grow. I am joined on my dad's sailboat with friends and family in False Creek, Vancouver BC. "If you give me your ears and let me tell you that you're never too old to make mistakes and grow.

Song of the Day: December 08, 2015 - "My Babe" by Whitehorse

December 08, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

They already put out one of the best albums of the year back in February, but Whitehorse isn't slowing down. They're rolling out a brand new EP one song at a time, with videos filmed in studio, in a project that takes the band deep into the Chess and Checker electric blues of the 1950s.

In fact, the first song is a cover of "My Babe" written by Willie Dixon and made famous by the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame's only harmonica player, Little Walter. The couple brings fire to the gritty blues tune about "a woman that won't stand for her man to cheat".

The EP is called The Northern South Vol. 1, and it'll be out early next year.

Whitehorse performs "My Babe" from the new EP "The Northern South Vol. 1" coming February 2016 on Six Shooter Records. Written by Willie Dixon for Little Walter. Filmed by Light Echo Productions. Recorded at Revolution Recordings, Toronto, ON.

Song of the Day: December 07, 2015 - "Hollow Tree" by Old Man Canyon

December 07, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Old Man Canyon continues his way across Canada and the US, on tour with The Paper Kites.

A few weeks back he released a new single, titled "Hollow Tree" off of his upcoming album (due January 15th) Delirium.

It is today's song of the day, which you can listen to by clicking below, and, fun fact, it actually appeared in an episode of The Flash (which is filmed in Vancouver!) recently.

Song of the Day: December 06, 2015 - "Focus" by P'ARIS

December 06, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

The mysterious P'ARIS are back with a heartwrenching new tune. In keeping with their stream of guest vocalists, "Focus" features the powerful pipes of Willa soaring over twitchy synthpop.

And while the duo's secret identities are still known only to a few, they were very open on the song's meaning:

‘Focus' is a song about two people experiencing the loss of a pregnancy. There’s a very particular type of gentle empathy that both partners must offer each other when going through a miscarriage. It’s a strange type of loss, especially from a pragmatic standpoint - you haven't so much lost something as you have lost the idea of something. So in a way you’re mourning the loss of control over your own future, control over your body, your biology. And you’re also faced with the fact that you have failed at the one thing humans exist on earth to do. ‘Focus’ is about making sure the relationship doesn’t suffer while you’re each processing things in your own way

Song of the Day: December 05, 2015 - "Hello" by The Elwins (Adele cover)

December 05, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

The Elwins are no strangers to covering huge pop songs. "Countdown" by Beyoncé used to be a staple in their live sets, and they even recorded it in a live session with Luke Lalonde. But this time they set their sights on arguably a bigger pop superstar, as the foursome took a day off during their current North America tour to pop into the studio and record their version of Adele's "Hello".

What do you think? How do you think it compared to the original? Who would you want to hear The Elwins cover next?

The Elwins went into the studio on November 30, a day off on their current North American tour to record a cover of Adele's "Hello" from her new album.

Song of the Day: December 04, 2015 - "Sweet & Fine" by Crissi Cochrane

December 04, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Need something to warm you up on these chilly nights? How about the sweet soulful sounds of Crissi Cochrane. The Windsor-based singer/songwriter released a brand new song a few days ago, the smooth & sexy "Sweet & Fine", recorded at the aptly named Soul Lab.

Hopefully this is a tease for more new music in the new year, and maybe even that western tour some people (me) have been patiently waiting for?
