Gigs Of The Week: October 02 - 08, 2015

Every Friday 3am Revelations give you our picks for some of the fantastic live shows happening in and around our city of Vancouver.
There's much more going on all the time, which you can check out in our concert calendar.
What are you seeing this week? Let us know in the comments below.

Kirk's Pick

Who? Braids
Where? The Cobalt
When? Friday, October 2nd (tonight!)
Why? For one thing, Deep In The Iris has become one of my favourite albums of the year thus far. For another thing, I have somehow never seen Braids live before. Really eager to change that.

Christine's Pick

Who? Cover Up For The Planet
Where? Biltmore Cabaret
When? Wednesday October 7
Why? JP Maurice is holding a charity show with Vancouver bands covering other Vancouver bands. Performers include Head Of the Herd, The Matinee, Bestie, Savvie, Jasper Sloan Yip, The Wild Romantics, Goodwood Atoms, Mindil Beach covering songs by Mother Mother, Yukon Blonde, Gay Nineties, Said The Whale, Black Mountain, Bend Sinister and more. It's like the original version of One Night Stand! Plus, how awesome is that poster (says the girl who took the photo).

Jessica's Pick

Who? Patrick Watson
Where? Commodore Ballroom
When? Monday October 5
Why? If you want to feel chills, appreciate soft and delicate music, and be amazed at string wizardry, this is the place to be. Come support the tour for his latest release, Love Songs for Robots that will inevitably leave you breathless.

Pre-PPP Chat with Smash Boom Pow

As the Coppard brother's of Smash Boom Pow were getting ready for their last rehersal before their Peak Performance Project showcase tomorrow, I (Jess) called them up and asked them a few questions. I promise my theme for interviews is not brother bands - it's just a coincidence that so far I've had 2 in a row - who knew that the PPP would become a family affair? Their music is a raw hybrid of garage and electric dance, and it excites me so much to see the duo perform tomorrow on their undoubtedly explosive set they've been building. Here's how our conversation went.
