Why? A couple years ago I went down to Seattle to see Sigur Rós perform with Wordless Music Orchestra and no hyperbole, it was the best show I’ve ever seen. So I am just a little excited to see them again here at the Queen E!

Why? PISS is capping off their first tour by returning home to Vancouver and not only can you catch them, but Emma Goldman, cherry pick, PERRA, and sundress are all performing as well!

It’s that time of year again! The time when I get on my high horse about how much I don’t like lists. And at the top of the list of lists I don’t like? It’s Year End Lists. Often times when these lists come around, you’ll just glance at them, maybe agree, maybe disagree, maybe complain... then completely forget about them and go about your day. Besides, who actually enjoys ranking art? So as is now tradition, that's where The Doomy Awards come in. In lieu of a “best of” list, I give you the award show you were waiting for (whether you knew it or not).

These awards take a look at this year in music and honour the deserving songs, albums, and artists in the form of goofy award categories, as chosen by me (Kirk). And even though some awards may be a little goofy, these are legitimately some of my favourite songs and albums of the year. The only eligibility criteria is they had to be on an album released this year (sorry, singles).
Whenever possible, all artist links are to places where you can (and should) go to listen to and purchase these songs & albums!

Why? One of my all time favourite bands, who I haven’t seen in nearly a decade, bringing their incredibly rich & lush sounds to the Orpheum? Yes please. A million times yes please.

Who? Dan Mangan
Where? Vogue Theatre
When? Wednesday, May 11 & Thursday, May 12
Why? Oh, you know, we’ve only been waiting for this specific Mangan show for TWO YEARS now! Personally, I’m also excited to see Cardboard Dan in action in the lobby (I took the photo), but also to sing along to all my favourites. You don’t really need a why, it’s DAN MANGAN!

Who? !!! with Blonde Diamond
Where? Fox Cabaret
When? Thursday, May 12
Why? Get ready to dance as !!! (chk chk chk) returns to Vancouver, and as an added bonus, locals Blonde Diamond are opening for them! Tough to beat that pairing.
