Summer 2015: Year of the craft brewery + live music

If you’re anything like me, summer calls for beer and beer calls for music. Some of BC’s best breweries are hosting music throughout the summer. I’ve rounded up five that you won’t want to miss if you like your beer how you like your music: local.

Red Truck Parking Lot Concert Series

This is more of a festival-y vibe, with an outdoor beer garden and a full line-up of bands once a month until September. Big names that you’d normally see at the Commodore such as The Trews, No Sinner, The Dudes, head of the Herd and One More Girl will accompany your Red Truck Ale perfectly.

The Set List at Postmark

This listing is a bit of a cheat, since The Set List is hosted by The Settlement Building, which is both a brewery and a wine bar. Vancouver Urban Winery & Postmark Brewery is a great option for groups who aren’t all hop heads. Come early and make sure you get a seat on the couch in front of the fireplace – it’s like having a band and brewery in your living room.

Live Music at Deep Cove Brewing & Distillery

If you’re into outdoor adventure as much as beer and music, hop the bridge to the North Shore for a day hike and cap it off at Deep Cove Brewery and Distillery. Local, mostly acoustic acts fill the air with sweet sounds Fridays and Saturday nights.

Longwoodstock at Longwood Brew Pub

Nanaimo music & beer lovers rejoice – you have a homegrown Vancouver Island festival to look forward to. Longwood is hosting this one-day event, starting at 1PM, nice and early to get your day-drunk & tan on. Vince Vaccaro and some other island-grown talent will serenade you through a few Dunkelweizenbraus.

Phillips Backyard Weekender

If you’re a Rifflandia veteran like me, you probably have fond memories of the shipping dock in the back alley behind Phillips Brewery in Victoria. Dancing until way past bedtime to The Knocks is one of my favourite memories, and this weekend looks like it might be able to top that with the likes of Talib Kewli, Badbadnotgood, Dan Mangan and Blacksmith, USS and so much more.
