Song of the Day: June 7, 2019 - "The Base" by Rich Aucoin

June 07, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of my plethora of Rich Aucoin merch…(hey, it’s on sale now, get some!) and the vinyl version of his incredible album Release.

In the meantime we have another incredible video from him for the song “The Base”, directed by Mike Bromley.
It’s the lead off song for the album, a very quick 1min and 37 seconds, and the video features Rich, wet in a suit in the ocean (again), and stunning views of the shores of Halifax (again).

Do yourself a favour and listen to the new album (click here), and go see Rich on tour (dates that have been announced so far).

Song of the Day: May 31, 2019 - "22: The Death of All the Romance" by The Dears

May 31, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Ten years ago today. May 31, 2009. That was the day of the very first post from 3am Revelations appeared on the internet. First there was a introductory blurb, and then a show recap from The Dears at Richard's on Richards from the night before.

Even if you haven't been following for seven years, you may know that The Dears are one of my all time top 4 favourite bands, so I was very happy to be leading off the new blog with their amazing live show (plus, the opening acts were Jets Overhead and Black Diamond Bay; that;s one hell of a lineup!)

So what better way to celebrate those tenyears than with a classic from that very band. From the album that got me into the band, No Cities Left, one of my favourite songs (and videos): "22: The Death of All The Romance".

(PS: the above was the first logo for 3amR. The llama never made it into the final version. Don't ask.)

Song of the Day: May 25, 2019 - "Tallboy" by TANGLERS

May 27, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

“Tallboy” is the latest single from Vancouver’s TANGLERS, off their new album Tangled In Time which came out earlier this month.

Vocalist/guitarist Ross Macnab says the video is about "a person who feels out of place and isolated from society. The character is struggling to get through a normal day, feeling like nothing is meant for them. Thinking long and hard about their place in the world and where they are going to end up, It also touches on the importance of human connection and the lack thereof at some points in life."

Song of the Day: May 24, 2019 - "Virtuous Circle" by Jordan Klassen

May 27, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

It’s been a while since we last heard from Jordan Klassen (2017 to be exact), but this week he released a brand new song, “Virtuous Circle”.

A beautifully heartwrenching song, Klassen said it was written “at a time in my life where I felt surrounded by a lot of death primarily; a death in my family, broken relationships, personal instability, and a seemingly endless streak of career disappointments. The song is a plea of hope that what feels like a vicious circle could invert into a virtuous one.”

Have a listen below.

Song of the Day: May 20, 2019 - "Pure Auto" by METZ

May 20, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

According to this new article in GQ, Keanu Reeves is a fan of METZ.
So REALLY, that’s all you need to really know, but I’ll give you some more info I SUPPOSE.

The band has a new album coming out July 12…a collection if you will… of “non-album singles, B-sides, and rarities dating back to 2009”.

They realized some of their early work was being sold for very high prices and wanted to make the music available for everyone one who would want it.

So this single “Pure Auto” was originally released as the B-side to the ‘Eraser’ 7” and they’ve never played it live, but you can imagine what that would look like, by watching this video below!

Song of the Day: May 19, 2019 - "Boujee Natives" by Snotty Nose Rez Kids

May 19, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I’ve had Snotty Nose Rez Kids’ new album Trapline on repeat for the last little while since it came out this month.

Their latest video and single from the album, “Boujee Natives” is insanely catchy, and you should give it, and the rest of the album a listen - prepare for even more great things from these two, including a show in Vancouver on May 30th at Fortune Sound (I’ll be there!).

Song of the Day: May 17, 2019 - "There Is A Wall" by Skye Wallace

May 17, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

We’re getting closer and closer to the release of the brand new self-titled album from Skye Wallace, and she’s treated us with another brand new song from the album.

Skye says: “‘There Is A Wall’ is a song of empowerment and an anthem lamenting the glass ceiling and the frustration of women trying to strive toward greatness throughout history. This is a song for all the untold stories, the under-appreciated, and the unseen.”

If what we’ve heard so far is any indication, we are in for one hell of an album on June 7th.

Song of the Day: May 16, 2019 - "Shoreline" by Leisure Club

May 16, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

If you need some chill vibez today, then Leisure Club has you covered with their brand new song, “Shoreline”.

The band say the song was “born in the depths of hedonism. The song represents a melancholic yearning for more meaningful connections in a fast, substance fuelled environment. Waiting on the shoreline is waiting to dive into an ocean of opportunity and self realization.”

Check it below to put it in your ears!
