Song of the Day: March 14, 2019 - "Blue Moon (Nude)" by Ashleigh Ball ft. with Gracenote Choir

March 14, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Ashleigh Ball released this stripped down version, live off-the-floor, of her song “Blue Moon” last week.

The song features the all-female Gracenote Choir in a one-shot video at the Settlement Building in Vancouver, and it’s as gorgeous as it sounds.

The album from which it came, Gold In You, is being released again with a “Nude” version of each song, on April 24th!

March 13, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Vancouver’s own Tourist Company have released a new video for their single “Conflicted/Restricted” which will be from their new album set to come out later this year (that’s all the deets we have!).

In the mean time, put this one on full screen, because it deserves it!

Song of the Day: March 12, 2019 - "Running Scared (Desert Song)" by The Strumbellas

March 12, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

While we wait for their new album Rattlesnake (out March 29), The Strumbellas are giving us another tease by way of a new song!

“Running Scared (Desert Song)” is “actually the song that inspired the artwork for the album. We love playing it because it makes us feel like we’re in the middle of the desert,” says singer Simon Ward. “This is one of the songs that came together the fastest and the studio was fun because we got to experiment with lots of weird instruments”.

Song of the Day: March 11, 2019 - "Future Shade" by Black Mountain

March 11, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Black Mountain has announced a new album and if they don’t take Destroyer on the road with them when they tour it, I’ll be sad, because it is indeed titled Destroyer.

The first single from the EP is “Future Shade” and if you needed to wake up this morning, this is the jam for you.

The album isn’t out until May 24th, so I’m sure we’ll get more music along the way!

Song of the Day: March 09, 2019 - "Free At Last" by PUP

March 09, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

PUP …is there anything that they can’t do?

Jam after jam, and amazing music video after amazing music video.

Today’s tune, “Free At Last” comes with an instructional video on how to play along, as well as clips of people from all different genres, and ages, performing their interpretation.
You can actually listen to every single one of them - click here for that.

It’s a marvel to watch, and the actual song is another banger. Their album Morbid Stuff comes out on April 5th, and they’ll make their way to Vancouver at the Wise Hall on the 29th of March!

Song of the Day: March 08, 2019 - "The Mind" by Rich Aucoin

March 08, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

YESSSS! We finally have a release date for Rich Aucoin’s new album Release, after slowly releasing songs over the last year or so.

May 17th is the day we’ll get the album as a whole, but Rich has already said more track releases are on they way, like today’s song “The Mind”.
It’s got a Bear Mountain vibe to it, as is another instrumental (which I’m loving), and I’ve definitely listened to it a few times already today.
(You should probably follow him on Spotify to make sure you get all of the new music as it comes out.)

No major tour yet, but he’s on his way to SXSW, so if you find yourself in Texas, be sure to check him out.

Song of the Day: March 02, 2019 - "Tell You Off" by Partner

March 02, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I’ve been running around all week photographing the wine festival, and a tonne of new music is piling up in my inbox, but I wanted to share this one with you while I had a free morning.

I was lucky enough to catch Partner when they were in Vancouver last week and had an amazing time. They played a bunch of new music. I honestly don’t think I hear this one, but maybe it was because the recorded version of the song has harmonica, and…barnyard animals sounds… on the track?!

Either way I wasn’t expecting what “Tell You Off” gave me, but damn, this band can do anything.

Their new album, Saturday The 14th, is out in just over a month, and hopefully we see them again soon.
