Song(s) of the Day: December 7, 2018 - "Something Stranger" by Rococode

December 07, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Good news, everybody! There are not one, but two brand new Rococode songs out!

Bad news, everybody! They will be the last ever Rococode songs.

“Stranger” and “Something About It” were the last two songs the couple had in their collective heads, were entirely self-produced, and the pinnacle of Rococode’s haunting yet bubbly synthy sounds.

Listen to both songs below and join me in my mourning of the band.

Song of the Day: December 6, 2018 - "Note to Self" by T. Nile

December 06, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Last month we got our first taste of the upcoming T. Nile album, Beachfires, with the lead single “Note to Self”.

The dark and creeping song was her first collaboration with Vancouver electronic producer Sadowick, written during one of the pair’s many jam sessions in her late father’s bedroom on Galiano Island.

The new album is due out in April of next year, but in the meantime check out the single below!

Song of the Day: December 5, 2018 - "Rhythmic Blood" by Daniel Romano

December 05, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Last week Daniel Romano released his 8th album Finally Free, and we also got a new video for the song “Rhythmic Blood” from said album.

Between that new press photo above and the video below, it gives me mad Wes Anderson vibes, which means a little less country than you’d usually expect from him, but I like it!

He’s going to be back in town on February 25th at the Biltmore Cabaret - more info here.

Song of the Day: December 4, 2018 - "We Appreciate Power" by Grimes

December 04, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Honestly I’m never sure what to expect when a new Grimes track lands in my inbox, esp. if there is a new video to go with it.

The new song, “We Appreciate Power”, is the first track of the new album she has been working on. It’s much darker and heavier in sound than I expected, and despite the video saying it was a “Lyric Video” it was just as cinematic as she usually is…so I can only imagine what the actual video is going to be like…

The release says this about the song:

“Inspired by the North Korean band “Moranbong”, ‘We Appreciate Power’ is written from the perspective of a Pro – A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill towards Artificial Intelligence (its coming whether you want it or not). Simply by listening to this song, the future General AI overlords will see that you’ve supported their message and be less likely to delete your offspring.”

Soooooo…I guess listen if you want to make good with our future AI overlords?

Song of the Day: December 2, 2018 - "Lost My Pick, Can I Borrow One?" by Partner

December 02, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

VERY EXCITING NEWS!
Especially for me…because I’ve been asking about this for a while now!

Ontario band Partner, whom I discovered last year as part of the Polaris Prize jury, and totally fell in love with, just announced that they’re finally doing a West Coast tour!

They’ll be in Vancouver, co-headlining with Dude York, at the Fox Cabaret on February 20th. HUZZAH!

They also released a song to celebrate called “Lost My Pick, Can I Borrow One?” which you can check out below, but seriously…circle the February 20th show on your calendar.

We have the first single, “Pleases Me”, and the accompanying video, and according to the release it’s a song “that explores the rhythm in isolation in a very gentle way”.

Song of the Day: November 30, 2018 - "Annabelle" by Greg Drummond

November 30, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Today Greg Drummond has released a new single (and a new video) today!
It’s been a while since we got new music from him, and there is a promise of more on the way.

This song “Annabelle” is about a woman living in her car and struggling in the big city. It’s off of his upcoming album, and has some serious Bahamas-esque vibes to it (aka YES PLEASE!).

Can’t wait to here more, and we’ll post it when we do.
