Song of the Day: August 14, 2018 - "Moving On" by Rong

August 14, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

I have been looking forward to hearing music from Rong ever since I found out it was a group comprised of local musicians Kristy-Lee Audette, Catherine Hiltz, Emily Jayne, and Jen Foster (who you may remember from such bands as Hot Panda/Bad Pop, Miss Quincy & The Showdown, Bend Sinister, and lots more.)

Well, their first released song, "Moving On" does not disappoint in the slightest. The fast paced pop-punk-fuelled tune definitely fulfills their promises of "a tasteless amount of riffs and fills."

You can hear the song on the Punkcouver compilation (or below) and catch them live at the Rocket From Russia Fest this weekend at the Astoria!

Song of the Day: July 27, 2018 - "Any Moment" by Jeen

July 27, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

It seems like there was a lot of new music popping up last week, and this one almost slipped by me... but I'm glad it didn't, because I think it might be the latest contender for Jam Of The Summer.

"Any Moment" by Jeen (who you may remember from Cookie Duster, with Brendan Canning) is the first single off her upcoming album Gift Shop and I can pretty much guarantee you're going to have a hard time getting it out of your head.

Gift Shop is out on September 14th, and check out "Any Moment" below!

Song of the Day: July 23, 2018 - “Tick-tock (Frontrunner)” by Frontperson

July 23, 2018 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

What happens when you combine Kathryn Calder (New Pornos, Immaculate Machine, and... uh... Kathryn Calder) and Woodpigeon's Mark Andrew Hamilton (no relation)?

Frontperson is the new collaboration between the two, with the latest single "Tick-tock (Frontrunner)" released last week. The song is exactly as charming and catchy as you would exprect from the pairing, and you can check out the video below!

Their debut album Frontrunner is out September 21 via Calder’s own record label, Oscar St. Records.

Song of the Day: July 22, 2018 - "Hollow Heartbeat" by Leisure Club

July 22, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

A Sunday in the summertime is probably the most appropriate day to have a Leisure Club song as Song of The Day!

The new tune from the band "Hollow Heartbeat"  also comes with a video ft. the talented Michelle Bowes frolicking around Vancouver. You're going to want to go to Playland with this tune in your ears after watching this one!

Song of the Day: July 21, 2018 - "Date Night" by Father John Misty

July 21, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Scrolling through my inbox I saw the words "Father John Misty" and "Chad VanGaalen" in the same line, there was no question I was going to open it.

Chad illustrated a video for FJM's song "Date Night" and it's as wonderful as you would imagine.

You can catch Father John Misty at the Skookum Festival in September.

Happy Saturday everyone!

It's no coincidence that she will be having her album release on the same date, here in Vancouver with Jenny Banai as a guest opener - click here for the details.

Song of the Day: July 19, 2018 - "Kill Me" by Dead Soft

July 19, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Well this is exciting news! BC's own Dead Soft just signed with Arts & Crafts last week, and released a new single, "Kill Me", from their forthcoming album New Emotion.

The EP will be released in the fall (via Arts & Crafts, obviously), and the band is heading out on tour with The Dirty Nil starting in October - with a show at the Biltmore on November 3rd.

If you can't wait until then, they play tonight at Fortune with Great Grandpa!

July 18, 2018 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Like I said in this week's Gigs Of The Week, I'm playing softball tonight, and am upset I'm missing the Living With Lions show with Seaway tonight at the Biltmore.

The Vancouver band just released a new song/video called "Tidal Wave" from their album Island that is coming out in September. Check it out below and please go to the show on my behalf tonight!
