Song of the Day: August 30, 2017 - "Undoing A Luciferian Towers" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor

August 30, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Get ready for the most intense seven minutes and forty seven seconds you'll experience today with the brand new song from Godspeed You! Black Emperor. "Undoing A Luciferian Towers" is off their new album Luciferian Towers, which is out September 22, and nothing I can say will be better than the statements the band themselves made, so...

About the album, they said "this, this long-playing record, a thing we made in the midst of communal mess, raising dogs and children. eyes up and filled with dreadful joy – we aimed for wrong notes that explode, a quiet muttering amplified heavenward.  we recorded it all in a burning motorboat."

And for the song itself: "look at that fucking skyline! big lazy money writ in dull marble obelisks! imagine all those buildings much later on, hollowed out and stripped bare of wires and glass, listen- the wind is whistling through all 3,000 of its burning window-holes!"

Check it out below, on Bandcamp!

I've been eagerly anticipating new music from The Rural Alberta Advantage for a while now, and now we get a taste with a fantastic animated video for the first single "Brother"

The song is off their upcoming album The Wild, which is due out October 13, and they'll be touring with Yukon Blonde (what a pairing!) including here in Vancouver at the Commodore on November 24!

Song of the Day: August 28, 2017 - "Dig A Little Hole" by Elliott BROOD

August 28, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

In a time where every other band is turning synth, it's nice to see Elliott BROOD stick to their roots (pun fully intended).

"Dig a Little Hole" is a jaunty tune that masks some pretty dark lyrics, and you'll be able to find it on their upcoming album Ghost Gardens, out September 15 via Paper Bag Records.

Song of the Day: August 24, 2017 - "Mess Of Wires" by METZ

August 24, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Not awake yet this morning? Press play on the new METZ song and you definitely will be.

While I thought the title of the song was about packing gear after a show (or untangling it beforehand), frontman Alex Edkins says “Mess of Wires” is “a reminder to myself to speak out and say what I believe. To be honest with myself. It is common to feel that your thoughts are inconsequential, a drop in the echo-chamber, but silence can be worse. Speak out about what you believe in, loud and often. In the spirit of this song, I want to strongly condemn the violent and hateful actions of the white-supremacists and neo-nazis in Charlottesville, VA this past week. Their vile attempts to incite division and fear through intimidation and violence have no place in this world.”

Have a listen below.

Song of the Day: August 23, 2017 - "Soldier" by Iskwé

August 23, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Iskwé has never shied away from speaking up in song, and her newest single is a great example of that. "Soldier" has a dark, trip-hop vibe, and she says it's "for all the protectors of our land, our water and our future generations."

"Soldier" is the first single from he upcoming album, The Fight Within, which you can pick up October 13, and I know I'll be looking forward to seeing her here at the Biltmore (with Rococode!) on October 5th.
