Song of the Day: August 24, 2017 - "Mess Of Wires" by METZ

August 24, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Not awake yet this morning? Press play on the new METZ song and you definitely will be.

While I thought the title of the song was about packing gear after a show (or untangling it beforehand), frontman Alex Edkins says “Mess of Wires” is “a reminder to myself to speak out and say what I believe. To be honest with myself. It is common to feel that your thoughts are inconsequential, a drop in the echo-chamber, but silence can be worse. Speak out about what you believe in, loud and often. In the spirit of this song, I want to strongly condemn the violent and hateful actions of the white-supremacists and neo-nazis in Charlottesville, VA this past week. Their vile attempts to incite division and fear through intimidation and violence have no place in this world.”

Have a listen below.

Song of the Day: August 23, 2017 - "Soldier" by Iskwé

August 23, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Iskwé has never shied away from speaking up in song, and her newest single is a great example of that. "Soldier" has a dark, trip-hop vibe, and she says it's "for all the protectors of our land, our water and our future generations."

"Soldier" is the first single from he upcoming album, The Fight Within, which you can pick up October 13, and I know I'll be looking forward to seeing her here at the Biltmore (with Rococode!) on October 5th.

Song of the Day: August 22, 2017 - "Walk The Other Way" by Bend Sinister

August 22, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

When I first started delving into the "local music scene", one of the first bands I came across was Bend Sinister, and I've been a big fan of them ever since. Now, after 12 years as a band (check out the video above) they're gearing up to release their 8th studio album, newly signed to Cordova Bay.

"Walk The Other Way" is the first single from the new EP The Other Way (out September 29) and is as bombastic as you would expect from the band. They say the song "urges us to take notice of the world and take action, but also realizes how hard it can be to look past the blinders of our own personal lives."

August 20, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Donovan Woods has a new single (and video) out for his song "All Mine".  He'll be hitting up some of the late summer/early fall festivals still to happen in Ontario, but no future news to report other than that!

The singer-songwriter says, of the track, "'All Mine' is a song about the feeling of working through adversity and realizing you've emerged intact." So start off your Sunday with that one!

Song of the Day: August 18, 2017 - "Mind Hijacker's Curse" by Chad VanGaalen

August 18, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

With less than a month to go before the new album, Light Information, comes out, Chad VanGaalen shares another new song from it with "Mind Hijacker's Curse".

VanGaalen says the song “is the outcome and side effects of vacationing inside of another organism’s consciousness. Once we can do this, I see the potential to forget your physical self and just live inside of some other beings mind. Hook me up to the fungal web that allows entire forests to communicate. I imagine the dolphin package would be very popular...”
