Song of the Day: June 03, 2017 - "Everything Now" by Arcade Fire

June 03, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

June 1st we saw the release of a new tune from Arcade Fire, "Everything Now" as well as a massive concert announcement - including a show here in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum on October 14th.

The new tune sounds like an electronic ABBA track (specifically "Dancing Queen") with the signature airy vocals from Win Butler, and gang vocals Arcade Fire is known for. Give it a listen below:

Song of the Day: June 02, 2017 - "Motor Inn" by Lanikai

June 02, 2017 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

You may remember Marti Sarbit as the powerhouse vocalist behind Imaginary Cities, but since that band announced the dreaded "indefinite hiatus", she's started a new project called Lanikai. Their self-titled debut was released last year, full of soulful, 60s art-pop gems, including "Motor Inn" which she just released a new video for.

Marti says: "Motor Inn was the first song I recorded with my friend and producer Thomas D'Arcy. It kind of set the tone for the direction we wanted to take with the rest of the songs. The lyrics are about what it's like to feel your head spinning, you're losing control of a situation, and really just need to remove yourself to gain some clarity. I also make a stupid/fun reference to Hunter S. Thompson's funeral in the bridge.”

Check it out below!

Song of the Day: May 24, 2017 - "Closer" by Mise en Scene

May 24, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Winnipeg's (and newest Light Organ Records signing) Mise en Scene has released a new song/video from their sophomore album Still Life On Fire.

The video for "Closer" premiered on Playboy (!), and features a love story on an adult filmset! Read what the band had to say about it here and watch the video below:

“The Closer video is really a unique love story told within the world of pornography.” shares frontwoman Stefanie Blondal Johnson. “We went with this treatment because we love what Lloyd and his team at The Herd does. We trust his vision and had many discussions to ensure the content was handled with taste, sincerity, and respect. It was very important to us not to stigmatize sex work. The film is more of a commentary on the world that we live in and our longing to be closer to others; the need for compassion and companionship in a world that can feel so lonely and fragmented.“

Song of the Day: May 23, 2017 - "Early To The Party" by Andy Shauf

May 23, 2017 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

It's been a year and 3 days since the world received Andy Shauf's album The Party, and we have a new video for one of the songs.

"Early To The Party" - something I am consistently - as a song is complimented by this very odd, and definitely surreal video from directors Luke McCutcheon & Michael Yablonski. Check it out below!
