Song of the Day: April 20, 2016 - "Settle Down" by Twin River

April 20, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

It's about two months until we get the full Twin River album (June 17th via Light Organ), but we've got a another single from the group to tide us over.

"Settle Down" is the third single to be released from the album after the double release of "Antony/I Don't Want To Be Alone" 7" release. All three songs will be on the new album, titled Passing Shade. Check it out below:

Song of the Day: April 19, 2016 - "Getting Over You" by Kaylee Johnston

April 19, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

If you've been following this blog, then you may know that one of my favourite new(ish) finds has been Kaylee Johnston, so I'm excited to hear brand new music from the Vancouver pop-singer-songwriter.

"Getting Over You" is a pop smash showcasing Kaylee's confident voice, and the video splices together her performance with "empowering scenes of women overcoming their own obstacles through a variety of dance and martial arts."

You can find the song on her upcoming EP, which will be out this summer, presumably just in time for her June 3rd show at the Biltmore.

Song of the Day: April 16, 2016 - "Sunday Sara" by Alexandria Maillot

April 16, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Alexandria Maillot teamed up with cmyk Productions for a brand new video, released yesterday.

"Sunday Sara" is the first single off of her upcoming debut full-length album, Time, which will be independently released on June 10th. The video paints a picture of conflict over the etherial voice of Alexandria. Take a look below!

Song of the Day: April 15, 2016 - "Miracle" by The Darcys

April 15, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

"Be cool first, hate the new Darcys record now."

"First person to call "sell-out" gets a prize! [champagne emoji] [trophy emoji]"

The Darcys had been relentlessly hyping up their new single, "Miracle", all week on the social medias, until it finally hit our ears yesterday. Well, the studio recording was released to radio stations across the country (which you can/should request with the hashtag #IWANTAMIRACLE) but you can hear the song as they perform it live at The Edge below.

The new song sees the band shift from art-rock to a bit more art-pop, as they also dealt with some changes in the lineup. After their last album (the amazing Warring) half the band decided to quit, leaving Jason Couse & Wes Marskell not sure what to do. After some deliberation, they went on as a duo, taking the band in a new direction. Which you can clearly hear in "Miracle".

Song of the Day: April 14, 2016 - "Juniper" by Begonia

April 14, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

If you enjoy the harmonies of Chic Gamine, then you might just recognise the voice behind Begonia. It's the new solo project from Alexa Dirks, who took to the studio with Matts Schellenberg and Peters (of Royal Canoe) as producers for the upcoming release. And if the first song is any indication, it's going to be something you're going to want to keep an ear out for.

Watch the camera swirl around the band as Dirks' voice soars over an infectious bass groove in the video for "Juniper", performed live at Knox United Church in Winnipeg.

Song of the Day: April 13, 2016 - "Souvenir" by David Newberry

April 13, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

New Newberry!

I was excited earlier this week when I saw that David Newberry would be returning to Vancouver in June (on the 26th, along with Skye Wallace at the Rickshaw) and then today, we got a brand new song from him as well.

According to Newberry the song was the last song I wrote before he moved away from Vancouver, first one he recorded for his album Replacement Things, but it didn't make the cut.
I'm glad we get to hear it now. Check it out below and be sure to mark June 26th down in your calendar!
