3am Playlist #31: Modern Space Guest Playlist

January 28, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in 3am Playlist

When a band is playing your city 3 times in 4 days, it's only polite to invite them to make a playlist for you!

Modern Space is on tour from Toronto and will be performing alongside the Arkells at the Commodore for their two night, sold out, stand this Monday February 1st and Tuesday February 2nd. Then after a day off (hopefully Vancouver will give them some sunshine) they're over to the Media Club on Thursday night with Smash Boom Pow, and Derrival.

We asked them to make today's playlist, including a few of their favourite Vancouver/BC artists. Click the image above to hear it, and be sure to catch them at one of their three shows!

January 27, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Michael Bernard Fitzgerald just graced the stage at the #SingItFwd finale recently and performed two new songs from his upcoming album. I made a point later to tell him that I enjoyed them and low and behold a reminder about the first single lands in my inbox.

His new album I Wanna Make It With You is set to be released on March 11th and features a whopping 17 tracks, 130 choral voices, a 20-piece string section, and a 12-piece band!

Check out the song below and keep an eye out for tour dates soon.

Song of the Day: January 26, 2016 - "Underside" by You Say Party

January 26, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

You Say Party's first album in SIX years will be coming out this February 12th, and their new single "Underside" was just recently released.

Their new sound acknowledges their past but is definitely more of a broader expansive sound with dreamy electronic pop vibes. I can't wait to hear the full (self-titled) album, but in the meantime listen to "Underside" here:

Song of the Day: January 25, 2016 - "Hunter Gather" by Rococode

January 25, 2016 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

After teasing us with an EP late last year, Rococode has announced a brand new full length, and given us a taste with the new song "Hunter Gather"

The song is an infectious electro-pop tune that's pretty indicative of what you'll hear on the new album, titled Don’t Worry It Will Be Dark Soon. It drops on February 26th on Marquis Label Services.

Song[s] of the Day: January 23, 2016 - "Don't Tell Me How To Live" & "Things Get Better" by Monster Truck

January 23, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Monster Truck will hit the stage at the Commodore in just over a month, and have recently released another few singles from their upcoming album Sittin' Heavy (Feb 19).

Sometimes you just need a good, heavy, rock'n'roll song, and, like the last single "The Enforcer", Monster Truck delivers just that with both "Don't Tell Me How To Live" and "Things Get Better".

If this is any indication of the album, I can't wait to grab a beer, turn on the hockey game, and have Sittin' Heavy on in the background.

Official music video for Monster Truck's single "Don't Tell Me How To Live," from the album Sittin' Heavy - out February 19, 2016 on Dine Alone Records.
