Song of the Day: January 04, 2016 - "Heading North" by Lydia Hol

January 04, 2016 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

It's a new year, and that means new album releases, and this is one I've been excited for, for a while. Vancouver artist Lydia Hol is set to release her latest album Heading North on January 15th, and has a show planned for January 23rd at St James Hall with Jasper Sloan Yip.

She released the video for the title track on New Year's Day, which you can hear below. It was recorded at The Boathouse on Pender Island, and also features some familiar faces: Devin Miller on guitar & vocals, Graham Serl on drums, and Marcus Abramzik on bass. Check it out:

Song of the Day: December 28, 2015 - "Body Feels Weird" by Altered by Mom

December 28, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Fun fact: when I first heard this song live I thought the chorus went "...when your bottom feels weird, what do you do?". Which, to be honest, I wouldn't have put past Devon Lougheed.

But no, as you can see from the new video the song is called "Body Feels Weird" and it's the new one from Altered By Mom, the latest project from Devon Lougheed (formerly of beekeeper, Hey Ocean!, and about a dozen other bands).

The song gives a heavy 90s alt-rock vibe, which even sneaks into the video, with parts of it feeling like it was taped off of videoflow on Much Music. It's just missing the globe-logo and song info in the corner at the beginning, or the very end of a Limblifter video before it starts.

Song Of The Day: December 26, 2015 - "Everybody Dies Too Soon" by The Dudes

December 26, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Happy Boxing Day! Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas or are you spending your day with your gift certificates?

Just before Christmas, Calgary band The Dudes released a new song called "Everybody Dies Too Soon" from their album set to release sometime soon (according to the band).

I laughed pretty hard when I read the song description they have with the track on their bandcamp (embedded below).
They bill it as: "A three-minute reminder to grab life by the throat and love like you are going to get cancelled, like so many 80's sitcoms."

Great idea as many people are starting to come up with their New Years Resolutions. Do you have one?

Song(s) of the Day: December 24, 2015 - The Line Of Best Fit's "Ho! Ho! Ho! Canada VII"

December 24, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

The awesome music blog The Line Of Best Fit from across the pond in England has come out with it's annual Ho! Ho! Ho! Canada album - this year being the 7th version of it.

Each year the blog asks Canadian artists to create an original Christmas/holiday song, and this go around EIGHTEEN artists answered the call. Artists from all over Canada were involved: Great Lake Swimmers, The Burning Hell, Colin Cowan & The Elastic Stars, and more, including Astral Swans, who created my favourite song on the list, "No Home Left In The Head", which we embedded below. (I also took liberties with his promo photo above. You're welcome, Matt.)

The album is FREE to download which you can do by clicking HERE, or stream the whole playlist on The Line Of Best Fit's blog by clicking HERE - where you can also read about each individual song and artist.

Merry Christmas Eve!
