August 12, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Nothcote has announced a new LP titled Hope Is Made Of Steel, and released the title track by the same name, which features guest vocals by Hannah Georgas!

The LP is set to release on September 25th, and Matt and the gang will head out on tour once again to support the album. There will be a Vancouver stop on October 23rd with tour mates The Glorious Sons at VENUE.
Check out the song below.

Song Of The Day: August 11, 2015 - "40 Days & 40 Nights" Ben Caplan

August 11, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

A new Ben Caplan song is out, titled "40 Days & 40 Nights", with an album set to follow and a tour after that.

Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers will be in Vancouver in October 26th at the Biltmore, but in the meantime, enjoy the new single, which is full of soul, and one of my favourite things huh-huh-huh-HORN SECTION!

Song Of The Day: August 10, 2015 - "Mountain At My Gates" Foals

August 10, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

Really digging the new single from UK band Foals that was released recently, titled "Mountain At My Gates".

Their new album What Went Down is due out on August 28th, and if this slow builder is any indication, it's going to be a great record.

Song Of The Day: August 08, 2015 - "Replacement Things" David Newberry

August 08, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

It's always sad when we lose another musician to Toronto, and I was very bummed when David Newberry announced he was heading back to Ontario. BUT the bright side is that musician tour, a LOT, and I knew it wouldn't be long until we'd see him again.

That 'again' will be September 13th at the Hindenburg with The Nautical Miles, just two days after his latest album, Replacement Things, is released.

In the meantime we've got a live video (from the Biltmore!) of the title track by the same name to tide us over (pun fully intended with the press photo up there, which I too got in the water to shoot - fun fact).

Happy Saturday everyone!

Song(s) Of The Day: August 07, 2015 - “Freedom! '15” and "Sick Ass Moon" by !!!

August 07, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Not content with just one lead single, Californian dance-punk band !!! (or Chk Chk Chk if you prefer something you can say out loud) has released two songs from their upcoming album As If.

The album comes out October 16th, but you can hear the first two songs now; the super-dancey "Freedom! '15" (which has got to be a George Michael reference) and the relatively darker "Sick Ass Moon".

Also, that might be my new favourite album cover of the year.

Song Of The Day: August 06, 2015 - "All My Life I Have Been Running" by Evening Hymns

August 06, 2015 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Spectral Dusk -- an album written about the death of frontman Jonas Bonnetta's father -- was one of my favourite albums of '012, so to say I have been eagerly anticipating the followup from Evening Hymns would be an understatement.

"All My Life I Have Been Running" is the first single from the new album Quiet Energies (out September 18 via Outside Music) and is a bit more rock 'n' roll than the haunting, introspective Spectral Dusk, which is no mistake, since Bonnetta says he "needed to write a ripper — a song with a Tom Petty bridge — about accepting who I am and how I perceive the world. Everything has led to this distinct level of clarity that I have now about my Dad passing away."

3am Playlist #7: Phil 'Er Up!

August 06, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in 3am Playlist

[CLICK HERE TO HEAR THE PLAYLIST]

Next week (August 12), another cover night hits the Biltmore Cabaret, but this time it will feature the music of Phil Collins and support the wonderful #SingItFwd program.

Performances will feature members of Hey Ocean, Dear Rouge, Bend Sinister, Rococode, Twin Bandit, Star Captains as well as: Jordan Klassen, JP Maurice, Dominique Fricot, WILLA, and Tonye Aganaba.

I've compiled a playlist of music by the artists, so you can start listening and think about which Phil Collins song you'd like to hear them sing.

And I've also done that myself, and asked Kirk and Jess for their ideal pairings as well.

Song Of The Day: August 05, 2015 - "Wanted" Ben Rogers

August 05, 2015 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I've had "Wanted" by Ben Rogers stuck in my head ever since he performed at ShoreFEST just over a week and a bit ago. No, wait, that's a lie, I've had it in my head since I saw the band perform at NXNE in Toronto.

Now you too can get it stuck in your head (in a good way) in anticipation of his new release The Bloodred Yonder which is set to release next week on August 14th! Click below to hear it:
