One of the things I look forward to most in the summer in Vancouver is all the festival IN the city itself. The annual Khatsahlano festival sees West 4th Ave shut down from Burrard all the way to Macdonald, and stages pretty much on every other street.

While the lineup this year meant making some hard choices on what to see, and what to have to miss (sorry Mounties!), there was no shortage in talent and music, specifically from our own city.

Weekly Photo Roundup - June 29, 2016 ft. Flight Of The Conchords, Eugene Mirman, The Burning Hell, Kathryn Calder, David Newberry, Skye Wallace

Weekly Photo Roundup for the week preceding June 29, 2016

Back from NXNE and straight into shows this week. But that's not a bad thing when your first show back is a) Flight Of The Conchords and b) at The Orpheum Theatre!
FOTC put on a hell of a show with both new songs and old favourites, and Murray (Rhys Darby) even came out for a band meeting mid-show (hilarity ensued). Shoutout to Nigel Collins aka the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra on the cello for most of the set, Vancouver loved him.

Also, Eugene Mirman opened and it was perfect, all except when Alexa (that Amazon robot thing) would comply with his bit, aka connect to the server. I'll blame Rogers for that one.

The rest of the week was filled with awesome Canadian tunes including The Burning Hell returning to Vancouver for the first time in about 5 years, with Kathryn Calder, (see Kirk's review HERE), and David Newberry returning to the city with Skye Wallace for a show at the Rickshaw (see Kirk's review of THAT, here).

Weekly Photo Roundup - June 22, 2016

Saturday night was a satisfying night of musical goodness at the Biltmore Cabaret. The stage was shared by Jenny Banai who quietly warmed up the room with her soft voice and simple, spiritual, Joni Mitchell-esque music accompanied by her guitar.

Next up, Alexandria Maillot played her official Vancouver album release party for Time (check out our interview with her here!) and got the full force of a band and backing vocals to layer up her music to bring it to it's full-bodied potential. Switching from keyboard to guitar, every instrument she touched bellowed beautiful sounds to an audience for the first time.

Lastly, Scenic Route to Alaska brought up the energy and drew in the crowd for the big hurrah of the night, changing up the atmosphere to that classic 3-piece indie rock band vibe that us Biltmore goers know and love.

Another excellent show from Leisure Club (I've realized I have been to all of their Vancouver shows so far!), and it was so good to see Van Damsel in Vancouver again! They performed their singles and material from their new album, and as you see in the photos above, it got a little sweaty in the Media Club.

The Pack A.D. put on a hell of a show this past weekend! I caught the Friday show, and I hope the Thursday one was just as crazy - we had a mosh pit going on Friday!
