Why? The Zolas have been touring their new EP Wino Oracle for a month now, and have a hometown show at the Imperial. Have an early start to an awesome weekend of music!

Peak Performance Project Year Seven: Top Three

This is it. The final year of the Peak Performance Project. Now in its seventh year, 102.7 The Peak and Music BC have picked one last top 12. Are giving away three last giant novelty cheques. Are throwing one last party.

And today, we found out who will be receiving those giant novelty cheques. All 12 bands went through months of hard work, going to a "rock & roll bootcamp", playing in the series of showcases at Fortune Sound Club, putting on a fundraiser for a charity of their choice, and writing their "final report" marketing plan.
So here they are in no particular order, the 2015 Peak Performance Project Top Three!

You can catch the big finale on November 19th at the Commodore Ballroom, where we will find out who takes the first prize of $102,700 (and second place of $75,000; and $50,000 for third).

Where? Wednesday October 28
When? Wise Hall
Why? A diverse lineup of local favourites playing a pair of acoustic songs; an older "then" and a brand new "now". All supporting Megaphone Magazine!

Jessica's Pick

Who? East Van Opry with The Gastown Revellers, Twin Bandit, Real Ponchos, Colleen Rennison and more!
Where? The Rio Theatre
When? Saturday, October 24th
Why? This East Van tradition carries on for yet another year! It will make the Rio into a hot mess of country/roots/blues, in a one-night-only mini festival.

Who? Hawksley Workman
Where? Commodore Ballroom
When? Thursday October 29
Why? It's been quite a while since we've seen Hawksley in a non-Mounties context, and his new album Old Cheetah ended a 5-year hiatus. Excited to hear the new material live, as well as the old classics!
